One thing I was worried about heading into ESPN's NFL Draft coverage this weekend was that the WWL would force Mel Kiper and Todd McShay into obvious disputes for the sake of disagreeing. It's terribly annoying on First Take each day, but that's probably because it's idiots like Skip Bayless and Rob Parker discussing details they have no clue about.
Mel and Todd know their stuff.
I'm not sure who won the coverage between these two for the weekend, but what I do know is that Kiper is much more fun when someone disagrees with him.
We'll give McShay the nod because it's not obvious who his favorite team is, while Mel constantly defends the Ravens draft selections in a Peter Gammons-Red Sox-like fashion.
I think it was about round 4 when they were discussing (for the upteenth time) who made the worst draft decisions. Kiper said though not a loser in the draft the Jaguars "decided against" trading their second round pick for Jason Taylor. Todd said, "you mean to tell me they had an offer on the table for a second rd. pick for Taylor?" Kiper didn't confirm it and Todd was very quick to say that Kiper was then just making that up! It got Kiper very flustered and provided some comic relief from the repetitive updates. Points to McShay for pulling Mel's card. Also kudos to the whole draft team for showing tremendous stamina.
