The latest news from England brings heartbreak for Tottenham Hotspur fans. The favorite son of White Hart Lane, Luka Modric has submitted a transfer request in order to secure a move away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Speculation about the Croatia international handing in a transfer request to the club had been in their air for some time now. Even the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, Daniel Levy admitted he could do little to keep Luka Modric in London anymore.

The 26-year-old central midfielder, Luka Modric has become hot object of interest in Europe. Clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona and Juventus are willing to break their banks to secure his signature.

However, Luka Modric has only shown interest in moving to Manchester United or Real Madrid. The coveted midfielder has been in superb form for his club and country during the last year. Luka Modric’s performance at Euro 2012 proved that the young star was an asset to any club he would join this summer.

Now that Tottenham Hotspur has realized that Luka Modric’s exit from the club is imminent, the London outfit will try to bag as much money possible for their Croatian star. Tottenham Hotspur set a £30 million price tag on Luka Modric in the beginning of the summer. However, that price is expected to rise now with Real Madrid and Manchester United edging towards a bidding war.

Manchester United has led the negotiations to sign in Luka Modric for the past couple of months but Real Madrid have stepped in a strong position to make a last minute swoop for the midfielder.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Luka Modric. If Real Madrid sign in Luka Modric, the Croatian could be the missing piece is Spanish football giants conquest to conqueror Europe.

“I'm going to play in the Champions League, I want to win that competition. I'm not going to be able to achieve my dream here,” Luka Modric said in an interview to sports newspaper Marca this week.

Real Madrid can guarantee Champions League action and a spot in the first team for Luka Modric. Daniel Levy is already eyeing the best deal either from Real Madrid or Manchester United.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been an admirer of Luka Modric since his early days at Tottenham Hotspur. The Scotsman listed Luka Modric as his top transfer target this summer. Luka Modric will also gain access to Champions League and a first team spot if he signs up for Manchester United.
