MLB ALDS Sunday Live Thread: Red Sox and Indians Try to Complete Divisional Sweeps
READ MORE:
MLB

We're just going to combine both MLB games into one thread today with all the NFL action as well.

Manny Ramirez walk off HR ball should land in Anaheim just in time for the first pitch. He was just doing MLB a favor. Will the Red Sox carry on the trend from the NL and end the divisional round as early as possible.

64% think so, Red Sox sweep

Joe Torre's job is on the line, as is Alex Rodriguez reputation. But it's Roger Clemens who was the most on the line who I doubt will end his career with a loss today.

60% agree, Yankees win

If it's baseball you're watching, here's your place.

Since the Patriots aren't on TV here, I won't miss a second of this one. Schilling will lead the Sox to the sweep.

Jered Weaver is pitching well so far. He got in a jam with runners on 2nd and 3rd with no out, but induced a weak grounder to Drew, and struck out Varitek and Crisp.

I'm optimistic that the top/middle of the order will get to him soon. Manny and Lowell each had excellent at bats, so I think it's only a matter of time before Weaver collapses.

Confused about post #3, but after the Chiefs loss; I'll be fine with watching baseball for the rest of the day...Can anyone tell me the most sweeps in LDS since the wildcard? Pretty sure all 4 never have been swept before, not positive.

Bases chucked early...lets see if Schilling can get out of it; or the rookie can come through.

The most sweeps in one round of the ALDS is 2. It happened in 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2005, 2006, and already this year.

If either the Red Sox or Indians win today, that will break the record.

Schill's making me nervous today. He's not pitching nearly as well as I would have hoped. He got out of this one, but he can't keep pitching like this. It WILL come back to get him eventually. This Angels lineup is too good for that, and they have the speed to punish the Sox badly for mistakes.

Then write more blogs. CF's job is to blog all day. Literally. Anything less from him would be a disappointment. But I know you know that everyone else's blogs are more than welcome as well.

Use Baseball and Football; always have enjoyed. Mostly look for just Player by player stats though.

Young Jered didn't seem too happy with that one; his hair sticking out like that continues to bug me though..

Just saw a great sign in the stands...I'll see if I can replicate it, since I don't have DVR anymore.

By the way...if Manny keeps doing that HR walk, he's going to get drilled. At least, he would if I was pitching.

The taunting to the camera is always fine with me, whatever in the dugout; but to stand there and do it right to him in between home and first...he should get hit.

This isn't really the place for this conversation, but you are more than welcome to talk to Ty or CF via private message, and they would be more than happy to explain the blog system and/or accommodate your own blogs, if that's what you're looking for.

I'd say thats good enough for Schilling; but will be interested in seeing who exactly they bring out for the final 6 outs.

Maybe if the Angels can get 3 outs, we'll find out.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Javier Lopez get in an inning or 2 in what is turning out to be garbage time.

Jeez; at 2-0, I thought they still had a shot. Now; its just getting ugly, and quick. 7-0 now and 2 more in scoring position...

Edit:: lets make that 9-0...

Jeter error and Cabrera hurt just as the games switch over

10/7/07

Good start...as soon as the Yankees game comes on, the first thing I see is Jeter making a throwing error. Unfortunately, the official scorer is apparently a Yankee fan, and doesn't want to tarnish DJ's image, so they rule it an infield hit, even though it was clearly a terrible throw, and they would have got him if it were on target.

I hope that error leads to a run or 2...that would be priceless to see the Yankees' favorite son blow this series for them.

How about what TBS quoted George of saying, "If the Yankees do not pull off a win of this series, Joe Torre will probably not be managing next season."

Torre's a bit overrated as a manager, but Steinbrenner's a complete idiot for coming out and saying that right now. The timing couldn't possibly be any worse. Right now, he should be throwing all of his support behind his manager and players, not threatening to throw them under the bus.

Bad thing for Clemens; Yankees-- pitch count is high to start the game... so if Cleveland keeps making Roger pitch, they will start to get into their bullpen... however, Joba will most likely relieve Clemens. The rules won't apply here... this is do or die. A good thing for the Yankees is that there are no bugs all over the damn place.

Yeah...I think it's safe to say that Chris and I are both a little excited right now. In the heart of every Red Sox fan, there is an inherent contempt for the Yankees. Seeing them get swept would be the best thing since...well...I guess a little while ago, when the Sox finished sweeping the Angels.

Yes sir! This can't get any better! How shameful does Roger Clemens feel right now, Pat? He went to New York for the $$, and look what happened. LOL! He blew his chance to end his career much better than this...

Serves him right. He claimed that he only wanted to play for a championship, and then inexplicably went to a team that was about a dozen games behind, at the time. Clearly, it was all about the money. He almost got his shot, but the Yankees are deservedly getting blown out of this series, and I couldn't possibly enjoy this any more than I do right now.

And of course, Posada, CIG's "other" choice for MVP wastes it by grounding into a DP, just like "Mr. November" Derek Jeter.

That's the 2nd time Jeter has grounded into a double play. His mediocre play today has cost them at least 1 run in the field, 4 outs at the plate, and possibly a few more runs that would have scored, had he been able to get a hit.

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking, but whenever I get a chance, I always look for a Red Sox win, and/or a Yankees loss. I have a feeling that's not what you were asking, but that's my answer, until you clarify the question.

well i meant like strategies played by managers or pitcher's/batters mechanics

I generally try to watch the pitchers, more so than hitters. I've been a pitcher my whole life, so I love watching good pitchers. I try to watch the signs, if they show them on tv, and I watch where the catcher is setting up, and try to see how often the pitcher is hitting his spots. I also look to see how the pitchers set up the players, like how Westbrook is throwing a lot of sinkers, looking to induce the ground ball, as he has done so well so far this game.

When I'm watching hitters, I usually try to see how well they're tracking the pitch, and it's pretty obvious when they're not swinging well, like Varitek when he struck out in the 7th today against Shields. He looked off balance, and was swinging at bad pitches, because he wasn't seeing the pitches well enough.

I also like to analyze the fielding, like how they just called an error on Cano on a very tough play, but Jeter's error was called an infield hit, when it should have been a relatively easy out.

As far as managers, I like to see how they use their pitchers, and how quick or slow they are to pull a pitcher. My pet peeve was Grady Little, who ALWAYS pulled Pedro Martinez too early in 2003, except against the Yankees in the ALCS, when he left him in for too long, and it cost them the series.

oh cool!

i just want to add what i watch for...it's pretty similar here, but i also like to see certain tactics the catchers have like when they pat the glove and then set up the target on the opposite side of the plate

i think it would be really cool if i could talk to a guy like Yogi just to ask him when he had conversations one on one with the pitchers what they would talk about, and the different strategies against certain hitters.

Eh...no worries. I don't mind the Indians getting a little worn out, and losing a little confidence. And after Roger getting pulled so early, the Yankees' pitching staff will be hurting a little bit, so the Tribe will take care of them soon.

true. A rested Red Sox squad will be best, and this gives them the opportunity to use Beckett in game 1, and start the string again if they get 2 days off.

If A-Rod sucks in the playoffs, then how would you evaluate Jeter's performance so far this year?

yeah it takes a while for me to find my olds... i check my leagues to find them. I have more luck there. I guess i'm kind of bummed that i can't do much with NBA... and i see Jess pwns the NHL on here... i do a hella lot of work with NBA, but i dunno... nothing i can do, so i just let it alone... . 250 recruits... covering countless sports games... not enough. I did have that dream come true, so i guess i should not complain. I do enjoy covering games.
