MLB All Star Game Live-Thread: The One Night Barry Bonds Gets Cheered
READ MORE:
MLB

It's that annual summer night where there's absolutely nothing else on, so we shrug our shoulders and say 'sure why not, let's watch the AL whoop up on the NL.' I do enjoy the All Star Game, but lately it's been a little lacking ... mostly due to it's extraordinarily one-sidedness. 9-0-1 record for the American League.

Page 2 put together a gimmicky list of 78 reasons to enjoy the 78th All Star Game. Reason 16 seemed the most logical: Because Greg Oden is no longer playing in the Vegas Summer League.

Thanks to the Ladies ... we now have a reason to watch every single pitch of the game. Normally, I'd beg to miss any and all Fox plugs of it's fall programming but not tonight. Tonight that could mean the difference between a Bingo and boring.

So print our your prefered card (I'll be playing with the NL version) and comment along.

Here's a few random predictions from you:
FanIQ says ... the AL will score over 6.5 runs (68%)
FanIQ says ... the first run scored will come from the NL East (38%)
FanIQ says ... the AL win will by 2-3 runs (58%)

Curious why ESPN had never mentioned the Barry Bonds vote rigging. Did MLB make sure they didn't?

He's a great player, no doubt. One of the best ever ... even if he hadn't taken steroids most likely. But the fact of the matter is that he did. That's why people hate him ... and the fact he gives very little back to fans. Barry deserves all the criticism. He cheated.

Thanks to Pedro Gomez we now know poor Barry is really tired today because of that party he hosted

Who says I've singled him out. The topic is about Barry today. Who do you want to talk about?

People don't single him out, Barry just so happens to be breaking one of the most pretigous records in baseball. Why wouldn't he be talked about?

Sammy Sosa is equally guilty. People don't hate him as much because he's at least somewhat tolerable in public. McGwire. Palmeiro. Who else do you want to talk about?

What's equally old is the only defense by Barry fans is -- well, lets talk about other people.

Lets do this in another thread, like we have plenty of times before, and enjoy the all star game in this one.

Agreed there will be plenty of other threads to praise Barry.  Let's watch the game and enjoy the Willie Mays pre-game tribute.

I'm thinking we're going to need to turn the B-I-N-G-O game into ... which cards gets the most bingo's. Pretty sure we'll have a couple bingo's in the 1st inning.

"What about all the other cheaters?"

Well, none of them are about to break an important record, like this one.  I wonder if Bonds would even be close to it, if he never used steroids in the first place.  You have to admit, it looks very bad.  And, it looks even worse that Giants techie fans probably "stuffed the ballot box", so to speak, to get Bonds in.

And, a note... to all those here who think this thread tonight should simply only be about the all-star game, how can it be?  The Bonds thing ruins the prestige of this year's event for me, when it SHOULD only be about the game.

LOL you got that right.  Players adjusting their junk could fill up a board alone.

That was a very cool look into the clubhouse. Two great managers for such an occasion.

Willie Mays was a 24 time All Star ... I've seen that before, but it doesn't make it any less amazing.

Does the Simpson's Movie count as plugging a Fox fall show?

Are those empty seats in the top deck along the third base line?? Wow.

Maybe they are for some of the people on the field right now for the pregame ceremonies?

Joe Buck, please shut the hell up.

We know how great Willie Mays is. You don't need to say anything during this moment.

Could be.  Pretty bad seats... if they're for important dignitaries.  But I guess to be in the stadium, it would be worth it.

Not if you gave what Mays did to SF.

To be fair, there were a few years in the late 50s that they played two all star games, so I'm guessing he gets counted twice for those.  Still 24 is pretty impressive.

Hahaha, the look Utley gave Fielder was priceless...Im glad they got that on closeup!

I had completely forgotten about that. Thanks for the reminder. I agree though, it's still impressive.

Haren knows he can't walk Bonds or he'll never hear the end of it.  I'm guessing he is going to try to get ahead with fastballs so hopefully Barry is ready.

I need Reyes to score first...I think I entered a couple too many polls on the All Star Game.

Very exciting finish.  Why Pujols wasn't brought in in the end of that game is beyond me though...
