American League
| Pitcher | W-L | ERA | K/BB | IP |
| Dan Haren, A's | 13-4 | 2.53 (leads AL) | 131/44 | 167.1 |
| Erik Bedard, Orioles | 12-4 | 2.98 | 207/ 52 (leads AL) | 169 |
| Josh Beckett, Red Sox | 15-5 | 3.24 | 140/29 | 147.1 |
| John Lackey, Angels | 15-6 | 3.07 | 126/43 | 161.1 |
| Fausto Carmona, Indians | 14-7 | 3.16 | 99/45 | 159.2 |
| Johan Santana, Twins | 12-9 | 3.02 | 174/39 | 167 |
My Take: I still regard wins as the most overrated stat for a pitcher. Worth consideration, for sure, but Erik Bedard should have about 17 wins right now if he had any form of a bullpen. Consider Josh Beckett get 6.47 runs a game from his offense. You'd better wins games if you consider yourself a decent pitcher. If the award is supposed to go to the best pitcher in that particular season, my choice right now is the Orioles Ace.
National League
| Pitcher | W-L | ERA | K/BB | IP |
| Chris Young, Padres | 9-4 | 1.93 (leads NL) | 125/46 | 130.2 |
| Jake Peavy, Padres | 13-5 | 2.23 | 164/44 | 157.2 |
| Brad Penny, Dodgers | 14-3 | 2.61 | 116/51 | 162 |
| Carlos Zambrano, Cubs | 14-9 | 3.86 | 139/77 | 168 |
| Tim Hudson, Braves | 14-5 | 3.02 | 106/39 | 172.2 |
| Brandon Webb, DBacks | 12-8 | 2.77 | 155/56 | 175.2 |
| Cole Hamels, Phillies | 13-5 | 3.64 | 150/37 | 160.2 |
My Take: Once again, he has the least amount of wins here but Chris Young has only allowed 84 hits this season. No one is even close (even if he's missed a few starts). Compare his 3.66 runs support a game to Jake Peavy's 5.21 and you have the difference in wins. A 1.93 ERA is filthy and my choice for Cy Young.
Who do you think will win? Also let me know if that differs from who you think should get the award.
