MLB Opening Rainouts Day Thread: Everyone Is Tied for First!
READ MORE:
Finally, the real thing. Not the faux 6 am in Japan opener or the Sunday night version. My enthusiasm for MLB Opening Day is as strong as any other day of the sports calendar outside of the first Thursday for the NCAA tournament or college football's first Saturday.

But my excitement is somewhat muddled today thanks to the geniuses in baseball's front office. It's unlikely the Cubs and Brewers get their game in this afternoon from the looks outside. Go figure, it's March in Chicago. If only there were a domed stadium near by. Oh, that's right ... THE F'N BREWERS HAVE AN INDOOR PARK! Oh well, I'll get over it, but it'd be nice if there weren't multiple rainouts on opening day.

One of the many things that make opening day fun is that every game seems critically important. A loss today and you're in the dumps. Such is the case when transitioning from cheering for your teams in sports where 1-loss can actually ruin a season. Maybe that's just me. Anyways, nearly a full slate today. Here's the nationally televised games: Blue Jays at Yankees (1, ESPN) Brewers at Cubs (2, ESPN2/WGN) Giants at Dodgers (4, ESPN) Angels at Twins (7, ESPN2) Pirates at Braves (7, TBS) Astros at Padres (10, ESPN2) Feel free to discuss these games throughout the day.

It doesn't look too good for the Brewers/Cubs game getting in today.  I guess its a good thing they had a scheduled day off tomorrow, but whats the point of Opening Day if half the teams can't play?

Didn't we have this same problem last year too?  It seems like half the games were either rained out or snowed out on opening day.  I'm with CF on this....play the opening day games in the southern hemisphere or in domes.

On the Brewers coverage just a few moments ago they were talking to one of the sideline reporters, who just happens to be a pretty attractive blond.  Bill Schroder for whatever reason really wanteds to see her boots, but it didn't quite sound like that.

haha. Well done.

Just took the tarp off at Wrigley. Apparently there is a "window" from now until 5ish.

I am now very happy with my purchase last night. I bought MLBTV from MLB.com. Now I can tune into anything. WOOHOO!!!

Although I am disappointed in not seeing the Cubs play while waiting for the Twins game. Pretty bad planning of the schedules if you ask me because Toronto is domed as well but lets start in NY.

This is ridiculous. Both of the games I wanted to watch today (the Diamondbacks & Yankees) are in rain delays.

Let's see... where do they have better spring weather, Phoenix or Cincy?

I would also be pissed off that MLB.tv Mosaic isn't available yet, but since there's only one game that is actually being played right now, I'm not that concerned.

Today's one of the few times I'm bummed they blacked out the ESPN broadcast of the Cubs game.

"You are looking live ... at Wrigley Field" was calling the game today.

Yeah I almost bought that package but when I went to view a demo I got a screen that said " This area is not yet ready. Please check back soon.". I couldn't help but laugh. They have only had 5-6 months to get it working.

I figure that even if that's not up yet, I still get much higher quality. If I've got the bandwidth & computer, I might as well use it.

I love it they just said they(K.C.) have Meche and Guillen for $11 and $12 million a year and their payroll is $55 mil.

I forgot about the picture quality until I turned on a game at 1. So I will spend another $5 a month average for better quality.  I am paying for it right now. lol

Nice HR by Gordon there. A season after I had drafted him as a fantasy sleeper, of course.

Too bad the weather is horrible in Chicago today or else those 2 hits by theriot & Soriano could have gone to the warning track or maybe over the wall.

Looks like Pie has recovered from his twisted testicle, made his first catch today.

ya that play took him all the way to the wall, now lets see if he can demonstrate some power like he showed in spring training.

So not only is it Opening Rainout Day, but also my first day back to class...yippee.

Class from 6-10 tonight, but being its first day, I hope its just random talking for 30 min, and I can go home early to make it for the Twins game...On the other hand; I don't really want to come home to listen to Morgan and Miller...

Nice Shot by Jeff Kent 3-0 Dodgers

Congrats to the Royals on beating Detroit; Twins have a shot at a tie for first place, with the Tigers outside-looking-in already, now only if Thome can hit another two bombs and have Cleveland outside today too.

One of many Barry Zito home runs this year.

Yay for Pujols' first HR in his second at-bat.

I do expect a some-what bad year from him, but a quick start could really change my feelings.

His impressive 4 earned runs and 5 hits through 2 is a great start to the new season..

This picture makes me laugh more than it probably should. I think it's us that should be praying for him.

Colorado/St. Louis game now in a delay...

I vote for all stadiums to have retractable roofs if you're going to have the season start this early.

Ahh Great Zambrano pitching a great game and leaves with cramping in his fingers.

Come on Marmol!!!!

Konerko ties up the game with Cleveland at 7-7 in the 7th.

Mark Buehrle's 7-run 2nd inning is bailed out of a loss for him atleast.

O's lose 6-2 and I missed the whole game because of work and MLB Gameday Audio decided to crap out for the day with "technical difficulties."

Anyone watching the Sox-Indians game?  The umps are screwing the Sox.  Crede was safe at home.  Cabrera's feet hit the bag and he did not grab Peralta, so that wasn't runner interference.

Ah, the sweet sounds of springtime... the crack of the bat, the yell of the beer vendor, and the choke of the Cubs pitching.

Not sure if it has been mentioned...but MLB extra innings is free for a day or 3.  The games aren't listed, but I've watched a couple today.  Watching the Braves and Pirates right now.

You have potentially the best closer in the NL with Marmol, I wouldn't be too worried yet.

Here's what I try to remind myself on opening day.

'05 Cubs scored 16 runs. Sucked
'06 Cubs scored 16 runs. Sucked.
'07 Cubs scored 1 run, lost. Won the division.

What I really hate is this day off tomorrow after opening day.

I of course assume being its the first day of the quarter, the Prof would be nice and just take a short time, notices my Minnesota Twins shirt, and is a huge fan of baseball...but yet; the full 4 hours, including a 2 hour boring ass vid, and 50 questions due for next week out of a $160 Biochemistry book I have to go buy...

Yet, the Twins Win makes me feel somewhat better.
