Finally, the real thing. Not the faux 6 am in Japan opener or the Sunday night version. My enthusiasm for MLB Opening Day is as strong as any other day of the sports calendar outside of the first Thursday for the NCAA tournament or college football's first Saturday. But my excitement is somewhat muddled today thanks to the geniuses in baseball's front office. It's unlikely the Cubs and Brewers get their game in this afternoon from the looks outside. Go figure, it's March in Chicago. If only there were a domed stadium near by. Oh, that's right ... THE F'N BREWERS HAVE AN INDOOR PARK! Oh well, I'll get over it, but it'd be nice if there weren't multiple rainouts on opening day.
One of the many things that make opening day fun is that every game seems critically important. A loss today and you're in the dumps. Such is the case when transitioning from cheering for your teams in sports where 1-loss can actually ruin a season. Maybe that's just me. Anyways, nearly a full slate today. Here's the nationally televised games: Blue Jays at Yankees (1, ESPN) Brewers at Cubs (2, ESPN2/WGN) Giants at Dodgers (4, ESPN) Angels at Twins (7, ESPN2) Pirates at Braves (7, TBS) Astros at Padres (10, ESPN2) Feel free to discuss these games throughout the day.
