Another Day, Another Batch Of Great Playoff Games [MLB Playoffs Live Thread]

10/8/09 in MLB   |   Pat   |   5146 respect

Yesterday, we saw 3 different home teams win Game 1 of their respective divisional series. Today, we have 3 more games, and one team will try to break the streak of home teams winning in Game 1.

The Rockies and Phillies kick things off at 2:37 pm EST, with Cole Hamels and Aaron Cook as the starting pitchers. The Phillies won 5-1 in Game 1, and 75% of FanIQ picked them to win Game 2, as well.

At 6:07 pm, the Cardinals and Dodgers will meet in Game 2 of their series, with an outstanding starting pitching matchup of Clayton Kershaw and Adam Wainwright. Wainwright is a Cy Young candidate, and Kershaw is one of the best young pitchers in baseball. The Dodgers won 5-3 last night, but 64% of FanIQ users are picking the Cardinals to even the series at one game apiece.

To finish off the night at 9:37 pm, the Red Sox and Angels will square off for the 3rd year in a row. They also met in the 2004 ALDS. The Red Sox beat the Angels all 3 times, with a combined 9-1 record against them. The Angels look to reverse that trend this year, starting tonight when they'll send John Lackey against Jon Lester. 57% of FanIQ users think the Angels will win this one.

If you haven't made your predictions yet on our MLB Pick 'Em Page, do it now, before it's too late. All games are televised on TBS, so if you're watching, chat it up here with us all day. And as always, enjoy the games!

In the end, the Sox still didn't score a single run. The umpiring was awful, but you don't win many games without scoring any runs at all.

they also can't say they didn't have their chances. They had guys on base. You have to score to win. Even taking away that homer, it would still have been 2-0 LA. Better luck today i guess. Bring some better gatorade. LOL

it's that 1st base umpire's fault that the game is 3-0 Angels.

Had it not been those bad calls at 1st, we'd still be at 0-0.

AGAIN, AT FIRST!!!!!! Fire that dumb freaking ump. What a freaking jerk.

10/8/09   |   Chris   |   3 respect

Blew a good chance there. 9 more outs to get some runs on board.

Cool, you got that replay. Yeah. I was hoping Sox could get some runs in to add pressure, but Lowell hit into that DP, now Lester is fatiguing and were in a 3-0 hole. Dang it.

Umps again. Clearly tagged a step before he got on the plate. Quit giving LA so many chances. Of course home field, blah blah blah, but let them earn it.

These umps are atrocious.

Come on, Lester got him... now bases loaded. Bologna.

Despite a 1-2-3, all three worked Lackey into 21 pitches. Lester better bring his best stuff tonight.

Wow, the Cardinals just blew it there.  Big comeback by the Dodgers.

indeed. That was a bad error, but really Franklin was throwing turds. He was all over the place. LOL!

Now, the best for last: Boston and the Halos.

He made it further than he did last time he faced the Rox back in April, when we rocked him in 3 2/3 and 7 runs. Today he made it 5 innings and gave up 4 runs before his trip to the shower=)

Now we know why Hamels was complaining. Cook is pitching good

If an NLDS game happens in Philly and no Philly or Rockies fans are commenting, does it really count?

I don't know if you're watching the game, but they just showed Hamels' numbers during day games vs night games, and it became painfully obvious why he's so upset about it. The guy is a TERRIBLE daytime pitcher this year.

Day: 0-6, 5.44 ERA
Night: 10-5, 3.95
