MLB Trade Deadline Rumors & Live Thread - Manny Ramirez Watch
Trades Won't Be Done Until They're Dunn
No need to wait until later on this thread with all the discussions early this morning. Feel free to join in all the rumormongering and share your opinion of the trades that get done below.

Here's the names I still expect to get moved, or at the very least, fill up the rumor mill:

Manny Ramirez - It's looking more and more likely. Just a matter of whether Theo Epstein has time to make the right move. The Jason Bay, Marlins Deal appears to be the frontrunner.

Adam Dunn - I've been surprised that the Big Donkey hasn't been moved in previously deadlines. This should be the year. Sure, he strikes out more than Jose Hernandez ever did, but he also has 32 home runs. Tampa? Hello?

George Sherrill - Jon Heyman says it's looking more likely that the O's hang on to their closer, but that's before the Brewers throw in a desperation last hour offer. Just sayin'.

Brian Fuentes - Not sure what to think here, other than he will definitely get traded. Boston is my guess.

Huston Street - We still don't know what the White Sox offered for Griffey Jr., but we know they are talking to the A's about Street. I believe he heads down to Los Angeles and joins Joe Torre's gang.

Greg Maddux - Just throwing it out there. Anyone? Cubs?

First blockbuster! OK, just kidding. Marlins acquire Arthur Rhodes, and his gut, from the Mariners.

Griffey has approved a trade from Cincy to the ChiSox:

Trade of Griffey to White Sox now requires MLB's approval

Local beat guy here in Chicago said the Cubs are talking with Texas about Milton Bradley.

Oh, dear.

Peter Gammons is reporting that the Manny deal is "close to dead."

Thankfully haven't heard anything about the Brewers.  About the only trade I'd be open to is Rickie Weeks for Huston Street but I don't think thats even been thrown out there.

Interesting indeed. Heyman's post is from 12:19, while Gammons is from 12:47... maybe something changed in that half hour. While I would love to see Manny out of the AL, the deal doesn't make much sense for the Red Sox... as Gammons reports, it "essentially would add up to the Red Sox trading Ramirez, $9 million and two prospects for Jason Bay."

Sidenote:  Is there a worse run team in the majors than the 'Stros?  Trading for LaTroy Hawkins?  What the hell.

Seriously. I was surprised the Yanks were able to get a breathing human being for LaTroy... and from what I hear, the kid is actually a decent prospect.

i think the braves should consider getting adam dunn that would be great just because of the power in the lineup u will have chipper batting 3rd adam dunn batting 4th and brian batting 5th and i must add that brian is leading the league for catchers in homeruns

and the sox would be stupid if they traded manny i strongly don't think that trade is going to go through

jayson bay is a good outfielder and has very good power but i don't think the sox will do the trade

I was under the impression that the Braves are sellers and not buyers, based on them dealing Texiera. So why would they trade for Dunn?

I agree, but man, I wish they would make that trade.

I was wondering what your opinion of him is. Now I know :P

Apparently, this is a back-burner option for both teams, as they are looking to see if there are better options available.

This rumor is really old but just read it again... Boof Bonser to Seattle for Adrian Beltre, and then the Twinkies call up that Liriano guy.  It wouldn't get as much pub as the Griffey trade, but it would be a much greater improvement if the Twins can pull it off.

Rumor has it that Jays are interested in acquiring Jason Bay from the Pirates and Raul Ibanez from Seattle (two separate deals from what I understand). I don't get why they are buyers and not sellers...

The Twins were actually looking at Hawkins, before the Astros beat them to it; I now expect them to adopt the standard line: "We were working the phones, but..."  The only thing I expect is to see Liriano brought up, and possibly move Hernandez to the bullpen(think of Ramon Ortiz from last year!)

It was said in the Star Tribune this morning that Texas might be a possible destination for Bonser, but I would love the deal you mentioned!!

Apparently, even though they are sellers, the Braves still want to add a big bat to fill left field.  I don't get it either.  That's the rumor.  The only reasonable explanation that I have is that they want to sure up that spot now if they can and spend all of their time in the off season going after pitching.  Just a guess.

This sucks.  I can't remember the last time I was bored at the trade deadline.  Braves = sellers is NOT something I am used to.  I know...wah wah wah.  But still...

well i just don't think that will happen just because jayson bays power doesn't match up to manny but it would be a win win i think

and im only 13

but from wat i have heard manny really wants out of boston but i don't think this year is the year

its dumb bc the braves have a young left fielder who is good defensively but not so good batting and dunn could be the power in the lineup and the braves need to buy they have good starting picthing in hudson glavine but the injury is the issue i think they need adam dunn and maybe go after some minor league relievers in the off season

Jason Bay to the Rays might be back on.

Fuentes looks like he's staying with the Rockies.

Cubs are out of the Ibanez race.

Jays are out of the Bay race.

All from ESPN.

Bay to the Rays appears done: from Rotoworld:

A source told MLB.com that the Rays will get Jason Bay from the Pirates for Reid Brignac and Jeff Niemann.

It's a very good trade for the Rays if true. Brignac is one of the game's top infield prospects, but the Rays were able avoid surrendering a second top-notch talent for a player they'd have under control at a very modest price through the end of 2009. If the Pirates trade Bay without getting an outfielder, they could call up Nyjer Morgan to help out. Andrew McCutchen is another possibility, but there's little reason to think he's ready. Okay, according to John Heyman, Manny is going to the Dodgers.

Oh, and apparently Bay is going to Boston.

Sports Illustrated says Ramirez traded to the Dodgers.  Here's the article.

The Red Sox traded embattled slugger Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers late Thursday afternoon, SI.com has learned.

Jason Bay is headed to Boston as part of the deal, SI.com has learned. The Pirates will get four minor leaguers in the three-way trade.

The Red Sox went back-and-forth with the Marlins and Dodgers as the 4 p.m. ET deadline approached. Ramirez said earlier today, as first reported by SI.com, that he would accept a trade to any team.

The announcement will be made in conjunction with a World Baseball Classic announcement at Dodger Stadium shortly.

So, if there's a base hit that goes in the left center gap, will Manny and Andruw argue over who has to get it?

Didn't help that they were asking way too much for Sherril.  They wanted Escobar from the Brewers, who we refused to give up for Sabathia.
