David Beckham has gone from not playing to playing a whole lot in a very short time.

His week so far:

Saturday - Played 90 minutes in L.A.'s 5-4 loss to Red Bulls in NY
Wednesday - Played 90 minutes in England's 2-1 loss to Germany in England
Today - Expected to start in Los Angeles vs. Chivas USA (ESPN2)

Following the match against Germany, Beckham said, "People expect that I can't handle the travel, then I have to prove them wrong. That's the only way I can do it, by playing well and winning games. We didn't win, but I'm happy to be out there for 90 minutes."

That's a lot of frequent flyer miles and a pretty impressive schedule for a guy who was out hurt not long ago.

Finally - barring a miracle comeback, this WNBA game is going to be over. 3 overtimes, and only one team will break 90 points. WNBA action! Woo!

Of course, with all the press talking about David Beckham's travel schedule, teammate Landon Donovan has done the same thing, having come from Sweden, where he played for the U.S. National Team. Jonathan Bornstein of Chivas came from Sweden as well.

Edit: Neither of those 2 started the match, which the announcers were kind enough to finally tell us.

So far this has been a boring match. It would figure that a nationally televised match on a major network would be the boring one, unlike the Galaxy's last match, which was fantastic but nobody saw.

WOW! This just got interesting. Becks gets fouled hard late, then starts to go toward the guy who fouled him. In the ensuing "discussion" one of the Chivas players (Zotinga) headbutted one of the Galaxy. Zotinga was sent off, as was one of the Galaxy. Not quite sure who did what yet - at first I thought Beckham had a headbutt attempted against him as well, but the guy just got pushed toward him.

Who was carded on the Galaxy? I still didn't see why the guy on the Galaxy got a red card as well.

I'm not quite sure - I've got The Office on for 15 minutes since it seems like they are talking about the Women's World Cup. Not that I'm not interested in that, I'd just rather watch The Office.

I didn't see any of the Galaxy do anything that merited a red.

3-0 the final. Beckham had to play the entire match because L.A. had used all of their subs. The man has now played 3 full games in 5 days, plus flown at least 10,000 miles.

Did anyone else hear the comment made by Julie Foudy? haha I cant believe she said that on television. ""It's not hard to out run Julie Foudy, I'm not black or anything"

 

However I have lost ALL respect for Eric Wynalda, what a moron. I did not think ANYONE could honestly beat John Madden in most retarded things said as a commentator. He did it. He was also extremly negative about a major league (not the best league I know) club. It was classless in my opinion. Saying a team will have rebuilding to do is one thing. But saying they are terrible at playing the game is another. Beckham played great as usual and had some terrific passes. Props for him playing 93 minutes.

Becks has now played the full 90 in three consecutive matches.  He looked reaally beat at the end there tonight.  Think the whole team felt the same way !

Wow, she really said that? If anyone had actually been watching the match and cared about Julie Foudy, there would be an uproar...

I like Wynalda at times, but I too thought he was being very negative toward the Galaxy. They are not a good team, but they have had a lot of injuries and they are now playing a schedule of games that even the busiest European teams would balk at. I know they got help from the league to get that schedule to maximize Beckham time, so in a way they are reaping what they sowed, but at the same time you have to feel bad for the players and fans.
