MNF: Philadelphia Eagles Fall to 0-2, Donovan McNabb Should Start Packing His Bags

Nevermind he's only 10 months removed from a surgically repaired knee ... it's all Donovan McNabb's fault that Eagles are 0-2 after a 20-12 loss to Washington on Monday Night. Nevermind the two muffed punts last week, either. It's a tough life for the Eagles QB. Soon to be former Eagles QB.

Despite his obvious rust, Donovan needs to shoulder some blame for missing Kevin Curtis wide open on the team's final drive. Heavy pressure forced him to rush the pass, when he simply just need to get the ball out into a big zone and missed completely. In losses like these, though, I have to look at Andy Reid.

I know you don't want to overwork Brian Westbrook (17 carries, 8 catches) but on a night when it was clear McNabb wasn't sharp, particularly downfield, I felt they could have used Westbrook more on the ground or on the always effective screen plays. He was the whole offense, and should have been more.

It's going to be an ugly first half of the season for McNabb and Andy Reid. If the second half doesn't get any better, we'll take you in Chicago Donovan!

The ironic thing is that McNabb has always managed to go blameless throughout his career, and has been overrated, but when he actually has a legit excuse for some performance issues he gets all the blame.

What? McNabb has been blamed constantly. Not as much as some QB's ... but he definitely hasn't gotten away with anything.

He consistently gets away with being inaccurate, and all the blame is always on the supposed lack of talent around him.  I realize that my QB gets away with quite a bit too, however there is a certain status that allows for for that (Manning and Brady can do some stupid stuff but it'll get written off because of all the great things they do as well).  I've never seen a guy able to avoid blame as much as McNabb.  Although at this time, he really isn't at fault.  Hes not healthy.

He more than likely is at fault. I'm sure team trainers ask him if he's OK, can he go? Maybe he lost a lot of confidence in the team when they let Garcia go?Maybe both are to blame? The team and McNabb, but team comes first. Philly has been running their team a lot like NE runs theirs. Players can go but our team is our team!! Eventually it will catch up to you. Your team is only as strong as the players. If you keep letting good players go, one day the person responsible will regret their decisions. What if Garcia was still there? Do you think McNabb might say, or think to himself, "Garcia's got it....I don't have to be the man this Sunday"? Who's got his back now? Does he trust him enough to say,"I can't go today".

Still as a Cowboy fan I wouldn't be surprised to see Philly jump back into the race in the next few weeks. I think the NFC East will be tight when its all said and done.

We'll he hasn't been to stricken with receivers either.  Maybe putting the blame on his is wrong.  I'm not defending him, but all of the blame is a little tough when you've had one pro-bowl receiver since you came here?  The year he had T.O. 64.7 Comp. %, 104.7 Passer rating.  Nothing close to that in other years.  But he hasn't gone lower than 57.0 (last year) since his rookie year, which to me, without anybody to throw too is pretty good.

The receiver claim is valid.  Anytime Todd Pinkston leads your team in receptions, you have a major problem at the position.

But they don't make receivers 7 feet tall.  Last night, I lost count of the number of passes that receivers had to jump for that McNabb sailed above their head.  Add that count to the Curtis pass where he threw too wide, and he can take a ton of the blame for last night's loss.

As far the Trotter release, Omar Gaither has filled in extremely well in his absence.  Gaither was actually one of the few bright spots in last night's loss.  And hey, at least our defense is holding up a little bit.  (We allowed our first two offensive TDs of the season last night, but it's tough to completely shut down the opposition's offense when your defense is on the field for the majority of the game.)

But Donovan is seriously struggling right now, and he better get his act together.  I've had his back all of the previous years he's been here, but I honestly think that his job is in serious jeopardy if he doesn't start performing -- and winning.
