Madonna furious at M.I.A for tainting the Super Bowl
The Queen of Pop, Madonna “wasn't impressed” with M.I.A’s obscene stage stunt at the Super Bowl. The incident occurred during NFL’s special halftime broadcast at the Super Bowl.
Madonna’s 12-munite medley continued without a hitch after the incident but when media came out of the-Super-Bowl-stupor they fired up against M.I.A and everyone involved in the act.
Nicki Minaj and M.I.A had joined Madonna to perform a song from the 53-year-old’s new album. The trio performed the track “Give Me All Your Luvin” on stage, where M.I.A got a little too excited and flicked up her middle finger while acting along the lines of the song.
M.I.A’s obscene behavior caused outrage among organizers and audiences alike, but they waited for the show to end before taking any action. Later, sources informed that Madonna was also furious at M.I.A’s stage antics.
“Madonna wasn't impressed. She prides herself on professionalism,” a source told British newspaper The Sun.
“M.I.A did nothing similar in rehearsals. Nobody knew she was going to pull this stunt.
“Madonna wanted to put on a world-beating performance. But everyone ended up talking about this girl's middle finger.”
In an attempt to diffuse the whole saga NFL came out with a public apology which worked but only briefly. A spokesperson for the NFL issued a statement after the fiasco.
“The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing and we apologize to our fans,” said Brian McCarthy, NFL’s spokesman.
Meanwhile, a source close to M.I.A has told reporters that her hand gesture was a result of “adrenaline”.
“She wasn't thinking. She was caught in the moment and she's incredibly sorry,” the source said.
Surprisingly, there is another M.I.A story circulating. In the wake of her Super Bowl controversy, the British star has split from her long-time fiancé and the father of her son, Benjamin Bronfman.
The source reports that the 36-year-old music star is spending most of her time in London. The source further informed that Benjamin was taking care of their three-year-old son in New York.
