Maicon set for exit as Pellegrini confirms “two or three” big names to Man City
Manuel Pellegrini has announced that he has no place in his Manchester City squad for Maicon. The new boss of the Eastlands is expected to bring massive changes to his squad ahead of the new season. The Chilean tactician admits he will cut under-performing players from his team before the summer ends.
In a statement released on Manchester City’s official website, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed he won’t need the services of the former Inter Milan star Maicon. The Brazilian full-back was brought to Manchester City by Roberto Mancini during a severe defensive crisis last year.
Maicon has been unable to make an impact in the Premier League since his arrival at the club. The 31-year-old right-back was considered to be one of the best full-backs in the world, but veteran has slowly grown out of form in the past two years.
The Brazil international, who made only four Premier League starts last season, is expected to be sold to the highest bidder this summer. Speaking to reporters after Manchester City’s 2-0 defeat to SuperSport United, Manuel Pellegrini confirmed the departure of Maicon.
“Maicon didn’t come here to the pre-season and he will not be in the squad at Manchester City this year,” Manuel Pellgrini said.
The former Real Madrid manager hasn’t revealed his defensive targets this summer, but admits there are “two or three” players that will be added to the squad. Sevilla forwar Alvaro Negredo is one Manchester City’s transfer targets.
Sevilla have also confirmed that Alvaro Negredo could be sold this summer. Manuel Pellegrini, who just recently lost Malaga star Isco to Real Madrid, is keeping a close eye on the transfer progress now.
“We are not in a hurry to bring new players in but we are clear that we need two or three more before the season begins,” Manuel Pellegrini said. “It’s difficult to say a date for any new arrivals, but before July finishes I think we will have more players.”
Notoriously known for creating a brilliant attacking team, Manuel Pellegrini is expected to bring in a couple of more top drawer players as Manchester City attempt reacquire the Premier League title from archrivals Manchester United.
