Major League Baseball To Start Using Instant Replay On Thursday

I, For One, Welcome Our New Instant Replay Overlords
8/26/08
After nearly a complete season with more blown home run calls than A-Rod hitting into double plays in clutch situations, MLB has finally gotten it's, um, *stuff*, together and agreed with umpires on instant replay. Replay will go into effect on Thursday night. For people born after 1940, this is a great moment. Too many games in baseball's long history have been altered by dreadful calls.
However, the new instant replay won't be available for everything, which is what some people have feared. It will only be used on so-called “boundary calls,” such as determining whether fly balls went over the fence, whether potential home runs were fair or foul and whether there was fan interference on potential home runs.
Suck it Jeffrey Maier.
Obviously, we all know Tim McCarver and Joe Morgan will have a hissy fit over this, but that's all right. That's why my TV remote comes with a mute button on it.
And any managers or players that oppose it, well, they're idiots. It's really that simple.
But the thing I'm most looking forward to is that instant replay comes with this awesome caveat:
Leaving the dugout to argue a call following a replay will result in an automatic ejection.
That's awesome. So, how many ejections should we peg Bobby Cox and Lou Piniella for during the remainder of this season and next year? I'll say 237 combined ejections. And that's a conservative estimate.
