The last baseball game I coached I was mad at a kid for looking at the 3rd strike. So I was yelling at him because he had another excuse, and I have heard them all this season. Well He hit 2 homeruns before the night was oner. When I went up to congradulate him after his homeruns he turned away from me. You do not have to respect me you do not have to like me . But you will not disrespect me. After the game another one of the kids told me that the other team was loose and having fun. While they were getting hollered at by our coaching staff. Well the other team only had 8 kids show up for about half the game, and the left fielder was text messaging in left field while the game was going on. Well again I felt that this was another form of disrespect as I told him if that was what he wanted to go play with that program. So I wanted to address these issues with the kids, the other coach told me he did not want me to. Well we have had problems with these 2 and 1 other in the year and I have always been told not to say anything. Well I feel that we are sending a message that this is acceptable. We have a group of young kids who do not need to be given this improper message. So I quit coaching. The other coach told the kids I was ill. Well in the 2nd inning two of them asked if I was mad and then 2 more said Bob is sitting over there. The other coach told me not to voice my opinion until the season is over. Well these are dmart kids and the lie is going to hurt the team a lot worse then my opinion is. There was disrespect given to me and I will not permit that. And by lying when season is over they will be told the truth. If the truth were told I believe the kids would feel sorry for what was done. As they knew I was watching game, and asked why in the 2nd inning that I was not there.
Coaches become more strict in High School...These kids ought to realize that it's now harder than ever to continue a baseball career after those LL or Youth Baseball days. If you gave a kid the "business" for looking at a 3rd strike then you did what all baseball coaches would do..IN fact High School kids would be running wind sprints all day...So, the kid hit 2 HRs...He should have thanked you for getting on him the at-bat before when he was watching pitches...He should have said, "Thanks coach...for reminding me that I have to swing to hit the ball..." Oh well what goes around comes around...You did your job...
