Mega-rich Malaga has joined Arsenal in the race to sign Real Madrid’s forgotten gem Nuri Sahin. The Turkish international has had a turbulent season with Real Madrid. Injuries and lack of playing time has turned Sahin into bench warmer this season.
The youngster is eager to rejuvenate his career and prepared for an away move. According to reports from Spain, Malaga is ready to pay big bucks for Sahin. This news will most certainly anger Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has been trying to sign Sahin since his days in Borussia Dortmund.
Last summer, Wenger tried to ink a contract with Sahin but Jose Mourinho stepped in to steal him for Santiago Bernabeu. It seems like it will be another big-spending Spanish club that will acquire the rights for the 23-year-old this summer.
Sahin’s career with Real Madrid has turned stagnant. Malaga is ready to offer Sahin first team action again, even though he has made just one appearance in La Liga this season. The Qatri-backed Malaga will be keen to beat Arsenal, who already have a wide range of midfielders in London.
Nonetheless, Arsenal is looking for backups in order to secure a Champions League spot next summer. Sahin helped Dortmund to the Bundesliga title last season before Real Madrid came swooping in for him. At Madrid, Sahin has to compare himself with the likes of Kaka, Mesut Ozil, Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Lassana Diarra etc.
Wenger feels he needs to add a defensive player that also has a spark of creativity in him to his midfield this summer. With the loss of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Andrey Arshavin, Wenger needs to bring in a big name to Arsenal.
Mourinho will most certainly consider offers for Sahin if they are good enough. The Portuguese understands that with sheer quality and quantity of players in Real Madrid squad, it will be some time before Sahin breaks into the first team.
Sahin has desired more playing time from Mourinho but the former Inter Milan manager cannot guarantee him with anything. Sahin is just a few months away from his 24th birthday. Sahin reckons he must be a regular in the first team before he turns 25.
Real Madrid bought Sahin for a mere £8 million, therefore they would agree to let him go for a similar offer.
