There is still time before the new season begins, but David Moyes has already proved that he can be a mosquito when it comes to acquiring an object of interest. Manchester United launched their third attempt at luring Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona earlier this week, an attempt that resulted in futility once again, yet Moyes is determined to pursue the Spaniard till the end of the transfer window.
Barcelona director Andoni Zubizarreta announced on Sunday that Manchester United had finally backed down in their mission to sign bring Fabregas to Old Trafford. The La Liga champions came up with the news soon after they shot down Manchester United’s third attempt at signing in Fabregas.
Zubizarreta repeated his earlier statements claiming Barcelona were never interested in selling off Fabregas. Moyes’ interest in Fabregas brought Arsene Wenger’s attention to the transfer saga as well. The Frenchman believes Fabregas is heading nowehere and will spend another season at Camp Nou.
“What I know is Fabregas will stay one more year at least in Barcelona,” Wenger said. “That's the information I have. If that changes, I don't know. But that's what I have been told.”
Caring not for comments from Wenger or the statements from Barcelona officials, Moyes continues to hope for a last-minute miracle. According to Moyes, Manchester United do have a chance of signing Fabregas. The Scotsman hasn’t given conclusive reason for his repeated attempts on Fabregas, but has shown a lot of confidence in his mission.
Sources close to Fabregas suggest the 26-year-old Spain international would be interested in moving to Manchester United if his desire to play for Barcelona came to an end, but since Fabregas was happy at the club Moyes will have to face disappointment.
Barcelona’s new manager Gerardo Martino recently confirmed that Manchester United’s third attempt on Rooney had been shot down by the board. The Argentinean’s statements arrive after Barcelona won the Joan Gamer trophy with an 8-0 victory over Santos.
Fabregas, who was on the bench alongside Neymar, has expressed desire to play more on the field. With the arrival of Neymar, Fabregas is expected to be on the bench more than ever before. A scenario in which Fabregas is on the bench, could convince the Spaniard into leaving Barcelona for Manchester United.
