Man Utd defender Evra believes Chelsea were without desire to win
Jose Mourinho is clearly not getting it right at Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge boss remains undefeated in the Premier League yet, Mourinho has been unable to show impressive football in the three games his team has played in.
The Monday game against Manchester United was part of a similar story. The Blues were lack lustrous in the midfield and literally absent from the attack. Seeing a formation of 4-6-0 failing in the midfield and being unable to bring anything to the attack, it was clear that Mourinho’s new tactics would need a lot of time before perfection.
Manchester United defender Patrice Evra claims Chelsea came out with no intention to win at the Old Trafford. Evra believes Chelsea were unambitiously aiming for a draw against the Premier League champions.
With no specialist strikers playing up front and Mourinho deciding to park the bus in front of his goal it soon became clear that the Portuguese tactician would have been very happy with a goalless draw.
Evra, who did a brilliant job at keeping Chelsea attackers at bay, claims Mourinho showed no desire to acquire three points from the game. The France international insists that Chelsea barely threatened with intention to score.
Chelsea’ newly signed winger Andre Schurrle had the only attacking role in the team, but he too was advised to stay on the right wing. Eden Hazard joined the attack with a more central role quite often, but his role on the left wing kept him outside the box for most of the game.
Chelsea’s gameplay improved drastically when Fernando Torres stepped on the field, but the Spanish striker was unable bring anything of value to the table. Evra admitted he was frustrated to see his side not score a single goal as they had the lion’s share of ball possession and more attacks than Chelsea.
“We should create more chances is the only thing I can say,” Evra told Sky Sports News. “The positive thing is we didn't concede a goal, Chelsea didn't create any really dangerous chances. The way they come to Old Trafford playing without a striker I don't think Mourinho was wanting to win that game, maybe he was looking for a draw.
“We should create more chances to win the game and the night would be perfect. I can say we look really fit, all the lads did a hard job. It was not easy and we keep going until the end because we want to win.”
