Man Utd legend Irwin believes Ronaldo will be back at Old Trafford
Speculation about Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United is causing an unparalleled hype in the football community. Recent reports suggest Manchester United will reacquire their former player before the end of this week. The Premier League champions have already predicted big news will be revealed on August 8.
Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Denis Irwin has backed the return of the Portuguese star. Irwin suspects Ronaldo of returning to Old Trafford this summer following David Moyes’ failed attempt to lure Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.
Ronaldo, who left Manchester United in 2009 for his dream to play at Real Madrid, has been quite on his transfer saga. The coveted winger’s silence is causing speculation about his move to increase. Reports about Real Madrid’s attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale are proving to be a catalyst for Ronaldo’s exit.
Real Madrid are determined to sign in Bale. The arrival of Welsh winger is expected to end Ronaldo’s career at Real Madrid. The 28-year-old Portugal international is believed to be unhappy with his stay at Bernabeu, having won little silverware despite superb performances.
Irwin, a Manchester United ambassador, claims his side is perfectly capable of affording Ronaldo’s transfer fees and salary. Irwin believes the move should greatly help Manchester United in strengthening their situation in England and Europe.
“So Manchester United have been linked for a second time this summer with a return to Old Trafford for Cristiano Ronaldo,” Irwin wrote in an article for the Sunday World. “Of course it could happen, but I believe the speculation may be sparked by the ever-clearer indications that Gareth Bale is on the way from Spurs to Real Madrid.
“Can Real Madrid, rich and all as they are, afford to buy and then pay that brilliant pair of players? If the answer is yes, then Madrid see them as their answer to the [Lionel] Messi and Neymar duo at Barcelona. If the answer is no, then Ronaldo will be allowed leave, and Manchester United is an obvious destination.”
Irwin also believes that Manchester United will have to “move heaven and earth to sign Fabregas”. Meanwhile, Barcelona have revealed that Manchester United are finally backing out.
“United want to get Cesc Fabregas before the transfer window closes and preferably before the season starts on Saturday week,” Irwin said. “Also, they want to keep rather than sell Wayne Rooney.
“I’d say those two deals are the most important bits of business in the in-tray of the bosses at United. If those two players are at the club next season, then it would be a fine summer.”
