Manchester City manager Mancini ready to swoop in for Robin van Persie
The manager for the mega-rich Manchester City, Roberto Mancini is waiting for an opportunity to grab Robin van Persie if the Arsenal star announces his exit from North London in the summers. The Dutch international has become one of the hottest topics in Europe following his blazing form with the Gunners this season.
In a recent interview, Mancini revealed that he would love to bring the Arsenal skipper to the Eastlands if he was given the opportunity in the upcoming transfer window. Mancini stated that he was impressed by the blistering form Persie had shown this season, and for that reason he would be willing to pay top bucks for his services.
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger is fighting a losing battle when it comes to keeping his top assets at the club. The Frenchman lost two other prominent players from his squad; Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas last summer. Fabregas joined Barcelona, while Nasri joined Manchester City.
Persie, who has already scored 32 goals for Arsenal this season, has refused to sign a contract extension. This means that the 28-year-old is intent of leaving the London outfit when the season ends.
Arsenal will obviously have to sell him off rather than risk losing him via free transfer. As City is showing ambition to bring home silverware and is in the same league Persie is used to playing in, the Dutchman could become part of the rising Blue Moon. However, Persie has also received informal offers from Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and Pep Guardiola at Barcelona.
In spite of that if Mancini has heart for Persie, he won’t let him go that easy. With tons of money behind his back Mancini would be willing to go on a bidding war with any club he wants to.
On the Persie issue Mancini commented:
“Because if Arsenal also lose Van Persie, they will have a big problem.”
“But we are interested in all good players. This is normal, but not only us.
“I think all the good teams are interested in Van Persie.
“I think Van Persie at this moment is one of the best strikers in Europe with Messi, Ronaldo and with Sergio (Aguero) and Mario (Balotelli).
“I think he is a fantastic striker, but I think he will remain with Arsenal.
“I don’t think he would be cheap because he has one year left on his contract.
“He is Arsenal’s best player at the moment and it is difficult for them to give him to another club.
“But I think if there is a good player who wants to leave a club, then we are interested.”
