Manchester United agree to sign in Benfica center back Ezequiel Garay
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing a deal with Benfica for their center back Ezequiel Garay. Reports from Marca claim Manchester United have agreed to sign in the Argentina international for £25 million.
In spite of reports suggesting Ezequiel Garay is set to travel to Old Trafford, neither clubs have come up with an official confirmation on the transfer move. The 26-year-old defender has been recording phenomenal form since moving from Real Madrid to Benfica.
Manchester United are currently riding swiftly for their 20th Premier League title, but their non-turbulent campaign has been the result of consistent performances from the club’s veteran defender Rio Ferdinand.
The Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson understands that he needs to quickly find a replacement for his aging star. Manchester United’s defense has been their Achilles’’ heel for the last couple of season.
It was Manchester United’s defense that cost the Sir Alex Ferguson and Co. the Premier League title last season. Manchester United’s defense been under par once again, but Rio Ferdinand’s consistent performances have provided huge support to the cause.

Rumor has it Sir Alex Ferguson is considering moving in for Borussia Dortmund’s world class center back Mats Hummels. The 24-year-old German international is considering moving away from the Bundesliga at the end of the season.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s interest in Ezequiel Garay is quite understandable. The 26-year-old is considered to be a no-nonsense defender, who is ready for a big money move to the English Premier League.
Benfica are reportedly listening to offers for Ezequiel Garay. The Portuguese football giants have already tagged the Argentine with a price tag of €30 million. Given that Manchester United have scored 30 goals in 23 Premier League games this season, Sir Alex Ferguson would be ready to pay a healthy amount of money to make his defense a stronger unit for next season.
Manchester United’s abysmal stats make them the second worst team defense-wise in the top half of the table. Sir Alex Ferguson has already bolstered his attack by bringing in Robin van Persie from Arsenal last summer, therefore it’s time to bring in a top notch defender as well.
