Manchester United officials have confirmed that manager Sir Alex Ferguson is sitting on a treasure chest worth £50 million, which is to be spent on last minute transfers. Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to bring one more midfielder and striker to Old Trafford before the transfer window comes to an end.
Rife rumors suggest Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to spend a large amount funds from his treasure chest on the Arsenal ace Robin van Persie. So far, the Scotsman’s attempts to lure in the Arsenal skipper have been futile.
Last week, Manchester United’s £15 million bid on Robin van Persie was rejected by Arsenal. After a ton of pleas and much begging Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has realized that he can’t do much to keep Robin van Persie in North London. Therefore, if he is to lose his coveted striker he might as well do it to the highest bidder.
“If transfers happen, they happen,” Arsene Wenger said in an interview last night. “But I will do what is in the best interests of Arsenal. “I believe that it is important that every individual player is happy.”
Juventus and Manchester City are also in the race for Robin van Persie. Both clubs are in a fierce battle with Manchester United to win the services of the “Flying Dutchman”.
After a dismissive start to the season, Robin van Persie was the only thing that helped Arsenal to a third place finish last season. In the process Robin van Persie scored 37 goals and produced 15 assists in 48 games. The 28-year-old forward also won the Golden Boot in the English Premier League.
Robin van Persie, who leveled Alan Shearer’s record for the most goals scored in a calendar year last year, is expected to move to Manchester City after he was spotted house hunting in Manchester.
A move to Manchester United cannot be ruled out, but Manchester City has been leading the race to sign in Robin van Persie since the beginning of the transfer window. Manchester City is also offering a huge increment in Robin van Persie’s salary. Therefore, the Eastlands are hot favorite to pick up Robin van Persie.
