Top notch clubs from across Europe are flocking to Netherlands to see the magic of Ajax star Christian Eriksen. As the January transfer window grows closer, the Danish attacking midfielder is being linked to big-money moves to football powerhouses in England.
The 20-year-old Denmark international just recently revealed why he turned down advances from Manchester City. Christian Eriksen revealed that the most important factor in his decision about his future club would be first-team action. The Dane admits he was hesitant to join Manchester City because of the fear of being overshadowed by other players.
A number of other Premier League clubs are also in pursuit of Christian Eriksen. Liverpool were the first to approach Christian Eriksen with a transfer proposal, but since then they have fallen behind in the race to archrivals Manchester United. Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also in the mix to acquire Christian Eriksen’s services.
Christian Eriksen, who has been in phenomenal form for Ajax since moving to the senior team in 2010, is still eager for Premier League action. Manchester United are presently leading the race to sign him in. Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to place a bid on the youngster in the upcoming January transfer window.
“Money has never been a motivation. I have chosen football before that every time and I still do that,” Christian Eriksen told the Guardian. “I'm addicted to football. When I get outside, I just want to stay on the training pitch.”
Manchester City were favorites to sign in Christian Eriksen last summer. The Eastlands approached Ajax with an impressive offer, but Christian Eriksen saw his future being threatened by the move.
“It was the feeling to get to a big club where they buy some new players every six months,” Christian Eriksen explained. “Then, probably, if you didn't do well in the beginning, you would go out on loan. I wouldn't like that. For me, it was just about wanting to play. At that point I was just 19 years old, so I had no hurry.”
Christian Eriksen further revealed that he was in no hurry to leave Ajax. The Dane, who has six goals and 10 assists under his belt in 22 appearances, wants to wait till a better offer approaches.
“I'm going to see what opportunities there are but I'm still happy here and I don't have any thoughts that I have to leave,” Christian Eriksen added.
