Manchester United has finally signed in Lucas Moura from Sao Paulo. Reports from England suggest Manchester United had to pay as much as £30 million for the Brazilian football prodigy. Lucas Moura is expected to receive a warm welcome at Old Trafford in the next 48 hours.

Lucas Moura’s transfer saga will end Manchester United’s yearlong campaign to acquire a midfielder. Lucas Moura appeared on Manchester United’s radar last summer, but both clubs did not take part in serious negotiations.

The 19-year-old Brazil international recorded impressive form for club and country last year. The youngster’s impressive performances attracted a lot of attention from top class European clubs. Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Juventus showed interest in signing Lucas Moura, but the actual battle was between Real Madrid and Manchester United.

With the summer transfer window coming towards it end, Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson decided to take matter in his own hands. Sir Alex Ferguson invited Lucas Moura’s father to Old Trafford and reportedly directly approached Sao Paulo for negotiations.

Reports in Italy suggest Sao Paulo has accepted Inter Milan’s bid for Lucas Moura. Manchester United have not commented on such reports, although they have declared true efforts to continue pursuing the youngster.

Sao Paulo’s vice president Paulo de Jesus Lopes claims these reports from Italy are incorrect. Paulo de Jesus Lopes confirmed that Manchester United is still the only club Sao Paulo is negotiating with.

“I'm not aware of this information,” Paulo de Jesus Lopes  said in an interview to Lancenet. “I was with (Sao Paulo president) Juvenal Juvenicio (Wednesday and Thursday).”

“We sat only to negotiate with Manchester United, but their offer was not good enough.”

Meanwhile, a fortnight ago Lucas Moura’s agent Wagner Ribeiro revealed that the young Brazilian preferred a move to Manchester United; although interest from Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan is increasing.

“He told me to keep negotiating when I talked about Manchester United's interest,” Wagner Ribeiro told Radio Globo. “It's a great offer. If it was an [impossible to refuse] one, he would leave.”
