Looks like Arsenal has finally agreed to a bid from Manchester United for their star forward Robin van Persie. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson will soon reveal the 29-year-old Netherlands international in a Red Devils jersey.
Around 24 hours ago, Sir Alex Ferguson informed that Manchester United had increased their bid for Robin van Persie. This occurred after Arsenal snubbed Manchester United’s £15 million bid for Robin van Persie.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger placed a £25 million price tag on his coveted striker Robin van Persie, who threatened to leave for free if the Frenchman didn’t accept his transfer request. Robin van Persie refused to sign a contract extension with Arsenal because he wanted to play for a club that promised to compete for silverware.
“We have made a bid and they've [Arsenal] been trying to negotiate with other clubs,” Sir Alex Ferguson said in a recent interview. “I don't have a gut feeling on it at the moment, I must admit.
“We're not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal. It's difficult to say why they're operating this way. I don't know what their thoughts are, because they're not giving anything away.”
A couple of hours after this interview reports from Manchester confirmed that Arsenal had accepted Manchester United’s bid for Robin van Persie. Initial reports suggest Robin van Persie was sold to Manchester United for a price between £22-25 million.
Later a statement on Manchester United’s official website confirmed that the wheels were actually in motion; Robin van Persie is hours away from his presentation ceremony at Old Trafford.
“Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Robin Van Persie,” the statement on Manchester United’s official website read.
“The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course.”
Robin van Persie, who won the Golden Boot in English Premier League last season, caused a lot of mayhem in the transfer market this summer.
Manchester City and Juventus were after Robin van Persie’s signature since the beginning of transfer window. However, both clubs failed to agree to transfer fees with Arsenal.
Robin van Persie scored 37 goals and assisted 15 times in 48 appearances last season. The Arsenal skipper also leveled Alan Shearer’s record for the most goals scored in a calendar year in 2011.
