Manchester United linked with move for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fernandinho
Manchester United is showing interest in bringing in Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernandinho. According to reports from Italy the Premier League toppers have reached an agreement with Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk for the services of Fernandinho.
The 27-year-old play-breaker is in his eighth season at Shakhtar Donetsk, where he has become the pivot of success for them in recent years. The highly rated midfielder Fernandinho is set to dissolve his loyalty if a Premier League club appears with interest in him.
The defensive midfielder has been in good form for Shakhtar Donetsk this season. Fernandinho has helped his side acquire a 12-point lead on top of the Ukrainian Premier League. The Brazil international has also helped Shakhtar Donetsk earn a spot in the last 16 of the Champions League.
A lot of praise has been directed towards Fernadinho for his superb performances in recent months. Shakhtar Donetsk’s manager Mircea Lucescu has hailed Fernadinho as one of the biggest asset of the club, which means he should anticipate big bids from Manchester United and other big clubs this summer.
Sir Alex Ferguson is eager to bolster his midfield options. The Scotsman believes it’s mistakes in the midfield that are resulting in lack lustrous defending for Manchester United. Fernadinho is the kind of player who helps strengthen the core of a team. He often provides support to the defensive walls and is present in the attack as well.
The Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson has tested Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher and holding or defensive midfielders, but none of these players have handed in satisfactory performance.
Manchester United has been linked with a couple of other midfielders as well. Marouane Fellaini and Kevin Strootman have been on Manchester United’s watch-list for the past six months. Strong bids have been made on both players, but Manchester United has been unlucky on each front.
Manchester United are expected to uphold their tradition of doing negligible transfer business in January this year as well. No one expects the arrival of big players at Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson’s recent statements.
