Manchester United prepare to battle Arsenal for Dortmund star Mario Gotze
Mario Gotze has popped up on the radar of every top notch club in Europe after his £30 million release clause was revealed yesterday. Manchester United and Arsenal are the leading the race for the young midfield star. Both English clubs are expected to come up with bids for him during the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old Germany international is one of the hottest transfer prospects in the football market this fall. Manchester United and Arsenal attempted to lure the Borussia Dortmund star to England during the summers, but final transfer fees for the move couldn’t be finalized.
The attacking midfielder has been in stunning form for Borussia Dortmund for the last couple of season. Mario Gotze performed beyond his years against Real Madrid, Manchester City and Ajax in the Champions League this season. He has scored seven times in 19 appearances this season.
Mario Gotze, whose contract with Borussia Dortmund will end in 2016, will have to ink a new release contract this fall. If Mario Gotze refuses to put pen to paper Borussia Dortmund will have to sell him off for the maximum price this fall or risk losing him for pennies during the summers.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been searching midfield replacement for Paul Scholes, who will retire at the end of the season. Sir Alex Ferguson, who is an big Mario Gotze fan, believes the youngster will fit the bill for Manchester United perfectly.
Arsenal laid a £32 million on Mario Gotze last year, but Borussia Dortmund snubbed their offer. Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp wishes for Mario Gotze to stay beside him. Jurgen Klopp has already lost Nuri Sahin to Real Madrid and Shinji Kagawa to Manchester United in recent years.
Although Arsenal have a long list of midfielders Arsene Wenger believes his midfield needs a creative spark. Mario Gotze has been credited as one of the best playmakers in the world. Given that he is still very young Arsenal and Manchester United will be asked to dig deep into their pockets for his services.
Manchester United attacking midfield comprises of Shinji Kagawa and Tom Cleverly. Shinji Kagawa is currently benched due to an injury and Tom Cleverly needs on-field experience before becoming a regular in the first team. Meanwhile, the youthful Mario Gotze is already handing in stunning performances in the upper echelons of football.
