Manchester United is attempting to make a last minute swoop to steal Barcelona transfer target Jordi Alba. Manchester United has been looking to replace their aging left back Patrice Evra. Barcelona is not backing down from signing in Jordi Alba which means the Spanish club could go at a bidding war for the young Spaniard with Manchester United.

Manchester United is expected to level bids from Barcelona for Jordi Alba. The 23-year-old Spain international, Jordi Alba has been in superb form with the La Liga club Valencia. Jordi Alba featured in 50 games for Valencia last season. He also scored three goals and provided seven assists.

Although Barcelona is the hot favorite to sign Jordi Alba, Valencia is unhappy with the €15 million offer from the Catalans. This is why Valencia is looking for other transfer options in the transfer market.

Sir Alex Ferguson is a well known admirer of the Spanish left back. The legendary Manchester United manager is expected to leave the club after a season or two but before he does Sir Alex Ferguson wants to leave behind a new young squad.

The Scotsman sees Jordi Alba as a good replacement for long-time Manchester United left back Patrice Evra. The Frenchman was struck with severe criticism last season. Although, Patrice Evra was out of form last season, Sir Alex Ferguson decided to field him anyway.

The decision to field Patrice Evra was a forceful one as Sir Alex Ferguson did not have any other reliable left backs in the squad. Therefore, bringing in Jordi Alba would increase the competition in the team and provide Sir Alex Ferguson with a good replacement.

Manchester United’s increased interest in Jordi Alba is not going down well with Barcelona. The Spanish giants are expected to come up with a large bid as soon as Euro 2012 ends.

On the other hand, Manchester Untied is trying to finalize a deal before Euro 2012 ends. It is believed Manchester United officials want edge out their Spanish rivals when the European Championship finally ends.

Sir Alex Ferguson has also prepared a £15 million bid for the Everton star Leighton Baines but the Scotsman prefers the services of the versatile Spaniard. Apart from playing as a left back, Jordi Alba can also be fielded as a left winger or as a left midfielder.
