Manchester United rejected Chelsea’s third bid at Wayne Rooney
A third bid from Chelsea on Wayne Rooney was turned down once again by Manchester United. The Red Devils made a prompt snub to Chelsea’s another attempt at luring Rooney away from Old Trafford on Sunday, but this might not be Blues last attempt at stealing the coveted English forward.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is expected to comeback from this setback to launch another bid on Rooney. The Portuguese tactician has already announced that he will remain in pursuit of the 27-year-old England international till the last day of the transfer window, September 2.
Rooney, who handed in his second transfer request in three years, has been closely linked with a move to Chelsea. Manchester United manager David Moyes has done all in his power to curb any interest in Rooney, but Chelsea has refused to give up on signing the former Everton striker.
Reportedly, Chelsea are preparing their final bid on Rooney. It is believed Chelsea’s last ditch effort at signing Rooney will comprise of a £40 million bid. What we know for sure is that Juan Mata will not be included in the deal.
The Stamford Bridge boss revealed in his press conference on Sunday that he had no intentions of selling Mata. Therefore, Manchester United will have to ponder over whether Rooney is worth £40 million.
Rumors around the block suggest Rooney is preparing for his first Premier League start for Manchester United on Monday. Interestingly, the Monday clash is against Chelsea. The Blues are believed to have spiced up the preceding to the match with a new bid on the unsettled Manchester United star.
A source close to Manchester United has told the Manchester Evening News: “Our position on Wayne has not changed in the last 12 months and Chelsea know that.
“There is lot of anger and a perception that the latest comments have been made purely to get into the player’s head before the match.”
In spite of Everton’s refusal to sell their star players Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, Manchester United continue to pursue the duo. Reports suggest that talks of bringing in Luka Modric or Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid are also going on.
