Good news, Orioles fans: Manny Machado won't need surgery, will be fine for 2014
If that was the case, Machado would have missed a huge part of the 2014 season, and it would have been a huge blow to both him and the Orioles.
Fortunately, that's not the case. The injury turned out to be a lot less severe than most people originally thought, and Machado should be back up and running again in 6 to 8 weeks. He won't require surgery, and that timeline actually gives him plenty of time to get back in the swing of things for his offseason routine, and he'll be ready in plenty of time for 2014.
That's great news for him, the Orioles, and baseball fans everywhere. Machado burst on the scene this year with an outstanding breakout season that saw him lead the league in doubles. He was also arguably the best defensive 3rd baseman in baseball, even forcing some to go so far as to compare him to legendary former Orioles 3B Brooks Robinson.
It's great to hear that he'll be back in time for 2014, and baseball fans everywhere will get a chance to see him continue to develop and improve next year.
