There have been some quirky All Star campaigns in the past. One of the latest ones was the attempt to vote Lastings Milledge into this year's game, despite the fact that he was sent down to AAA.
The latest movement? Vote for Manny!
Despite his 50 game suspension for violating the league's drug policy, there's a new campaign to elect Manny Ramirez to the All Star game. And unlike the Milledge case, this one actually makes a little more sense.
"To highlight the silliness that are the MLB rules towards PED users as well as their "head in the sand" approach to this situation. Rather than confront it head-on, MLB is choosing to do nothing and simply hope there are three higher vote getters in the NL OF... Not to mention all of the other stupid things that now surround the ASG, including the "winner gets HFA in the World Series" rule."
I actually think this is a great idea. Bud Selig and the MLB brass ignored the steroids problem for years, despite the fact that it was glaringly obvious, and right in front of their faces. Now, they're trying to act like they're cracking down, but I think we all know that there are still a ton of users out there. They're just craftier now.
So the "Vote for Manny" campaign is definitely something I'll hang my hat on. Since the whole All Star game system is a joke anyway, why not? It's a win-win.
