As soon as Manny Ramirez arrived in Los Angeles, Joe Torre kindly demanded that he cut his hair. However, I think what Torre had in mind was a little more substantial that what Manny came to the ballpark with Thursday night.
Leave it to Manny to interpret his discussion with his manager by his own rules.
Ramirez DID cut his dreadlocks, but only just an inch. Go figure. Maybe he needed a bathroom break and it cut the barber visit short? We'll never know.
Torre still seemed satisfied by "the process."
"He took a little bit off," Torre said. "In the initial meeting I had with him when I said, 'How important is your hair?' He said, 'You want me to cut it?' I said, 'Well, I'd like you to clean it up a little bit.' I think he was within the rules of cleaning it up a little bit."
Torre left room for possibly asking Ramirez to get another haircut down the road by saying, "Like Billy Crystal said in 'Analyze That,' 'It's a process.'
Isn't it always with Manny.
Not that Manny would follow through on the deal, but I'd advise Torre to bet Manny that he only gets to keep his hair if the Dodgers make the playoffs.
Although, it's not like Torre should want to change what's working. Manny is batting .477 with three doubles, five homers, 16 RBIs in 12 games since becoming a Dodger.
