We've spent a lot of time discussing whether CC Sabathia could and should win the NL's Cy Young award based on his impact since the mid-July trade to the Brewers. His influence on the NL playoff race has been immense and thus I think we shouldn't dismiss him because of only playing a half season in the league. The same goes for Manny Ramirez who launched the Dodgers into it's largest NL West lead of the season with two more bombs last night against San Diego. Despite the Diamondbacks crumbling a bit of late, we can be certain Los Angeles' lead is the result of one man, and one man alone.
Since his trade from Boston, Manny has played in 38 games for the Dodger Blue. And in those games he's hit 14 home runs, driven in 40 runs, scored 29 himself, and is batting a staggering .396.
I understand Albert Pujols is still the best player in the National League, he's batting a ridiculous .362 which a bum elbow, and hit 33 home runs. That's worthy of MVP status, but St. Louis won't be playing in the postseason. That's obviously not Pujols' fault, but nonetheless, it should always be a factor in most valuable player status.
We've still got a couple weeks left, but I'm prepared to give Ramirez seriously consideration. Manny's being MVP.
