Manny Ramirez Shoves Traveling Secretary Over Tickets
Manny Ramirez Will Take Those Free Tickets, And He Will Take Them Now!
I've always been a huge Manny Ramirez fan, but after this story broke late yesterday, maybe I'll be changing my mind.

Just a few days after Astros player Shawn Chacon pretty much ended his career by wailing on GM Ed Wade in the Astros clubhouse, Manny Ramirez decided to give Chacon a run for his money in the Astros' visiting locker room.

From the Providence Journal:
Manny Ramirez shoved Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground in an argument over Ramirez' ticket allotment. Several onlookers moved quickly to separate the two. Ramirez had asked McCormick for 16 tickets for Saturday night's Red Sox-Astros game, an unusually high number for day-of-game. In addition to handling all travel details for clubs, traveling secretaries also take player ticket requests for both home and away games.

When McCormick cautioned Ramirez that he might not be able to fulfill his request, Ramirez responded by shouting: "Just do your job!" An argument ensued and Ramirez pushed McCormick, sending him to the ground.

They supposedly made up later, and Ramirez won't even be punished. See, what I want to know is why in the hell did Ramirez need 16 tickets? Dude was born in the Dominican Republic and grew up in New York. Who in God's name does he know in Texas? You know what, I shouldn't even ask.

Anyway, some people may be wondering why the Red Sox aren't punishing him on anywhere near the same level that the Astros did with Chacon (who was released). Even though what Chacon did was worse, both were somewhat serious transgressions.

Well, I'll tell you why Manny's not getting in trouble. It's pretty simple.

Manny Ramirez = Hall of Famer
Shawn Chacon = Scrub pitcher

Frankly, Ramirez probably could have beaten McCormick with a bat and the Sox wouldn't have done anything. Well that's not totally true, they would have had to hide the body. But that's all.

And who knows, maybe McCormick is a regular Constanza. In which case, I fully support a beating.

The MLB needs to step in and control this type of outburst. First and foremost they need to test him for Roids and HGH. Then suspend him for a game or two without pay. If I were the commish, I'd give him 17 free tickets so he can watch the game he was suspended from with his friends in the stands. The guy is a cocky arrogant jerk that thinks more of himself than he should.

I'm an admitted Manny apologist but there was no excuse for this.

That said, "test him for Roids and HGH", are you nuts?  That punishment doesn't even remotely fit the crime.  He lashed out at someone and acted like a petulant child so he should be tested for drugs?  Unless you had cause, which you don't, that dog wouldn't hunt in MY workplace, let alone a Major League Baseball team.

Hey Sox fans, just Manny being Shawn Cha--ERRR ..Manny
I've actually always thought Manny was quirky...and I like quirky. But what is his deal this year? First with Youkilis in the dugout and now the traveling secretary.....Could it be he really, no really wants out of Beantown?
Do Sox fans even care as long as he's driving in 120?

Youkilis was going to get smacked by someone for being a tool.  Manny was just got there first.  I have it on good authority from a Major Leaguer that Youkilis is the "most arrogant a-hole I've ever met."  His whiny Paul O'Neill antics were growing tired in the clubhouse.  If Manny hadn't hit him, Lowell probably would have.

Also, assault doesn't equal "He must be hopped up on goofballs!"  That's a little presumptuous isn't it?  I noticed nobody is calling for Shawn Chacon to be tested for roids.  He only went MMA on the General Manager of the entire Astros franchise.  I forget though, Chacon doesn't play for Boston and isn't a first-ballot hall of famer.  Keep up that FanIQ Boston hate.

I hope Johnny Gomes wore his flak jacket tonight.  That sucker punching bush leaguer is going to get dotted up real early.

Whats in the water in Houston. First Chacon now Manny.

Plus I always thought Youkilis was kinda of a douche, but really to piss off the normally laid back sox players I guess you are a grade A douche!

Plus I forgot when should a guy with a career ERA of 4.99 think he is anything but a temporary solution even to bad teams.

If they did, he'd walk down to first. Gomes only plays vs. lefties. Hey Crisp needs to walk to first and there were plenty of Red Sox piling on Shields as well. It's well, a free-for-all, a donnybrook if you will. You just keep up that "we're Boston, if we say you should take a roll block steal of second and like it, then you like it". Didn't any Red Sox pay attention when the Yankees tried that sh*t on the Rays in spring training?
Ahh, test him or don't, doesn't matter.
Wow, so even Sox fans can tell Youkilis is a jerk. The local announcer here always makes fun of him and started to crack up when they caught the shot of Manny and Youkilis getting into it.

Oh what Coco did was stupid and I said so on this site at the time.  I just didn't appreciate the cheap shots he took from Gomes and Crawford while already tangled up with the catcher and held down on the ground, essentially out of the fight.  Brian Daubach did that on the Sox during the "Gerald Williams incident" against Tampa a few years ago too, and I didn't like it either.

I was blogging without a net.  My new office gets lousy radio reception so I couldn't listen to the game at work.  I got home to see the 7th inning on.  A raucous crowd and a compelling ending tonight.  Although the Sox came up short, I'm a baseball fan too, and it's pretty cool to watch a city get excited about a franchise making its own history over good things for once.  I'd really like to see the Rays make the playoffs.  What a turnaround that would be.

Hopefully Percival is alright.  I hate to see a guy get hurt just trying to back up the play.

Man, did you see how bad he wanted to stay in the game?! Wow, only because he's a gray beard veteran and has known Joe for probably 15 years could he get away with that! He did NOT want to leave.
Well, that's why I asked whether there would be a blown save or not on my poll.....not tonight buuuuut close.
It's crazy how much good young pitching the Sawks and Rays have...not just on the active but on their 40 mans and even deep into their respective farm systems.
Brian Cashman, where are your good pitching prospects?...What? ...in Japan?

Chacon should be tested too the only difference is that Chacon wont be playing in the MLB because no one cares about him. Manny is an icon and role model that MLB needs to get rid of. He's teaching kids they can be above the game and that should never be the case. This isnt about Chacon though so why complain no one said anything about him. I would call for his head too but hes a nobody. Boston fans are always crying and waving the "everybody hates us" card. Always backing up a player or coach that does something obviously wrong. BB cheats with the Pats "everyone does it we just got caught, we're 18-1, blah blah" and now Manny "oh everyone hates boston leave manny alone!" You should get that kid that was crying on youtube about britney spears to send that message for you.

When I was down in Tampa in '06 I had a chance to see Curt Schilling and Scott Kazmir put on one hell of a duel.  Kazmir struck out 10, got the shutout, and just dominated the powerful Sox offense.

Now that Kazmir's got some help in the rotation and a battle-tested closer in Percival, the pitching now matches that talented young offense.  It's an exciting time to be a baseball fan in Florida right now.

The Yankees decided to spend $30 million a year on Alex Rodriguez, who has never won anything anywhere rather than fixing a badly aging staff.  A-Rod will sell tickets, but he won't win championships, and that was always more important to Big Stein than money.  You might be looking at the 1982-1995 Yankees all over again.  Suits me fine.

I agree its such a treat to see the lower payroll teams do well. It just shows you don't need to buy your team. Just scout and you'll improve. That's what I love about baseball. EX: Marlins WSC. good stuff That's what made me a fan of baseball, that kind of "underdog" opportunity

I'm not a Patriots fan.  I laughed my butt off in front of all my Pats-fan friends when Burress caught that TD pass.  Check your facts and my profile before painting me with such a broad brush.

You are asking for someone to be drug tested because he shoved someone to the ground in a single and unfortunate occurrence.  That is extreme. That's not even remotely rational.  I'm fairly certain it would be a violation of the MLB/MLBPA collective bargaining agreement.  "OH he got upset and did something stupid.  He must be on roids.  Let's test him!"

That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.  One of your own, Hanley Ramirez, had numerous behavioral and conduct problems in the minor leagues.  There was a time that many thought Hanley would never play in the majors due to his poor attitude and behavior.  Should we test him for steroids and HGH because he was immature?

So every time Lou Piniella argues balls and strikes with an umpire we should test him for speed?  Come on.

What you are suggesting is that ALL bad behavior in sports can be attributed to drug use.  That's a VERY slippery slope, my friend.  Or I guess you're only attributing bad behavior of good players to drug use.  You said you wouldn't test Chacon but you would test Manny, because Chacon's a "nobody".  I respect your position that players are role models and should behave as such, but suggesting this single incident makes Manny Ramirez a drug abuse suspect is irresponsible.

Sometimes a guy acts like a jerk because he's a jerk.  It doesn't mean he's a drug abuser.

The incident with Youk doesnt help him and this years season he has not been such a calm individual. He shoved a guy because of 16 tickets. Not because he was being taken out or insulted. No, because the traveling agent said it would be difficult to get 16 tickets together for a game. Are you telling that kind of rationale is the logic of a jerk and a jerk alone? Hell no. I WOULD test Chacon but I can see why they didnt because he wont amount to anything but a joke. Lou is arguing not shoving theres a difference.

Touche... that being said, I think I speak for most Patriots fans when I say that none of us are remotely interested in hearing people whine about it anymore... We don't care... we know other teams cheated too, we're pissed that we were the ones who got caught, and Eric Mangini is a piece of crap. That about sums it up.

As much as I like to give my fellow New Englanders crap about the Patriots, you still have to perform on the field.  Even if there were illegal tapes for every game for the last five seasons, you still have to take the field and execute.

That's the bottom line. The performance on the field was there, and the Patriots PLAYERS proved themselves time and time again.

I'm not going to disagree with you there. This is a bad time in my franchises time but being a Phin fan I automatically want to get Mangini fired :) . The problem I think most people had wasnt so much the cheating but the support for such an action as not a big deal. Granted it was a great deal but at the same time if stuff like this has been happening for year it will have an effect whether you admit it or not. That being said I was just combining the NEers in their mind set on sport teams. Most of them not all. But it's all in the past I suppose and we'll see next year what happens. I'd say watch out for the Dolphins but... you dont really need to. :/
