Manny Ramirez Will Sign With New York Yankees In The Offseason To Get Back At The Red Sox

Manny Wants Revenge, Although I'm Not Really Sure Why
8/9/08

You know, if it hadn't been for Brett Favre, the Manny Ramirez tank job tour with the Red Sox and his subsequent trade to LA would have been the most dominant conversation in sports of late. So now that Favre's been traded, let's turn back to Manny.

As you may know, Ramirez has said how much he loves playing in LA. Makes sense, considering he's killing the ball since he got to town. But apparently Manny has no plans of staying there. In fact, Manny wants to go to the Yankees once he becomes a free agent at the end of the season. And he wants to go there for one reason and one reason only - REVENGE!

According to people who have spoken to the eccentric outfielder since he was dealt to L.A. on July 31, Ramirez wants to sign a free-agent deal with the Yankees New York Yankees this offseason and get 19 chances a year to punish Boston.

"He wants to play for the Yankees so he can get at the Red Sox," a close friend of Ramirez's told The Post
.

Now, what I'm trying to understand is what exactly is Manny so pissed off about? I mean, the Red Sox did put him on waivers in 2003 because he was being a jackass, but no other team scooped him up. So he went on to help the Sox win two World Series, became a Boston icon in the process, proclaimed he loved playing baseball in Boston, and was paid $20 million a year in the process. I seem to need someone to help me fill in this sentence - "Manny should be pissed off because  ___________."

You'd suspect that by this point in time, 2003 would be water under the bridge. Although, who knows if that's even what he's pissed about. He probably doesn't even know what he's pissed about. Although, if I had to guess, I bet Manny somehow found out that the Red Sox were the ones who snitched on him for trying to sell his neighbor's grill on eBay. That's definitely revenge-worthy, no question.

And obviously, you know I want Manny going to the Yanks to happen. As much as I hate the Sox and Yanks, the rivalry is still fun to watch, even though I'd like both teams to lose. I can only guess what the response will be at Fenway if Manny returns in pinstripes. Remember how badly Sox fans treated Johnny Damon after he left for the Yankees? And Damon wasn't even looking for revenge, he stated clearly that he wanted to make himself financially secure for the future and he got a better offer from the Yankees. It was just a business decision.

Obviously Manny going to the Yankees would make the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry the only thing ESPN would talk about next summer, but then again, isn't that all they talk about during the summer anyway? Precisely.

Just Manny being a huge d-bag Manny.

I don't know if I'll ever understand some of the things this guy says or does. But I hope if this happens next year, someone like Beckett, Matsuzaka or Papelbon is willing step up and drill him. Maybe then he'll have a reason to be sick of the Sox, and want revenge.

But at the same time, I can't deny that the thought of Manny in the batter's box against the Sox in a big position with revenge on his mind IS a bit frightening. When he feels like it, he's the best hitter in baseball.

Manny better do it with his bat because he sure won't enact much revenge with his fielding and base-running.
