Mandatory Credit: Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY SportsA few months ago, America was involved in a love affair of sorts with Manti Te'o.

Once they found out the truth about his fake girlfriend, everything changed.

Now, Te'o has made an appearance right at the top of Forbes' list of America's 10 most disliked athletes, along with fellow notorious liar Lance Armstrong.

I suppose America can't be blamed for feeling betrayed, since Te'o finished only a few votes away from winning the Heisman Trophy, thanks to a campaign that centered around an emotional story that ended up being completely fabricated.

If the voting was done based solely on the players' performance on the field, Te'o honestly wouldn't even have cracked the top 10. There were numerous players who were much better than him on the field, but just didn't have quite enough of a story to match up with Te'o and his girlfriend.

This is why awards shouldn't be predicated on an athlete's story off the field. But that's a discussion for another time.

Te'o joins Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Jay Cutler, Metta World Peace, Alex Rodriguez, Michael Vick, Kurt Busch, Kobe Bryant, and Tony Romo on the list.

On the bright side for Te'o, he's the only collegiate athlete on the list. So at least he has some serious name recognition before his professional career has even begun, right?

What do you think? Should Te'o really be on this list? Or is he just a victim of the huge publicity levels around his story? Do you dislike Manti Te'o?

Lance Armstrong is one of the worst frauds in sports. His actions are utterly egregious and he should be UNDER the jail right now. Read more at:

Who? (kidding) not sure he should be hated, but he is one of those things that make you go Hmmm?
Poor Kurt Busch, still on the list. The past few years have just been horrible for him. He was once, one of the top "up and coming" drivers....really just sad.

His situation was bizarre/weird/whatever you want to call it, but I don't think he's honestly "hated."  People will mock him and make fun of him, sure, but I think that's different than being hated.  His appearance on the list is simply a product of when the poll was conducted - at a time when that was the *only* sports story being covered.

I hated the coverage (I still do), but I don't think that people hate him.  If it was taken today, people would probably have already forgotten about him for the most part and he would be replaced by whatever the current story is (ARod and PEDs?).
