Marc Gasol Sprains Left Knee
Marc Gasol exited the game early in the 2nd quarter on Friday evening after spraining his left knee. Gasol was not hit in the knee, nor did he collapse on the floor after spraining it, so the severity of his knee is still up in the air at this point. However, Gasol will get a MRI on Saturday to find out the seriousness of the injury.
The reigning defensive player of the year is a vital component for the inside presence of the Memphis Grizzlies and his injury does not come at a good point. The Memphis Grizzlies were just beginning to jell together for the first time under new head coach David Joerger.
And his teammates know just how valuable Gasol is for their success. Power forward Zach Randolph said, "Praying, praying. Need him."
Kosta Koufos, who will most likely replace Gasol said, "I just want Marc to be healthy, (But) I'm prepared for whatever obstacle."
Gasol was averaging 17ppg, 7rpg, 4apg, and 1spg. Those will be hard numbers to replace, but if Kosta Koufos and Ed Davis can total that as a combo, the net effect may not be too bad until Gasol returns.
