Normally when players are traded in the later stages of their careers we hear reactions pointing toward optimism, revitalization, and redemption. 34-year-old Marcus Camby was more comfortable in Denver then we'd thought. I figured the former UMass star would embrace the opportunity to grab a bigger piece of the puzzle in Los Angeles and perhaps show off more of the scoring ability we know he possesses. As a Nugget, Camby's role was simple: play defense, block shots and grab every rebound. There was no need for creating his own offense with Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson commanding 50 shots a game.
So how did Camby respond to the trade? Not well.
"With everything I've been dealing with off the court, this is the lowest point of my life."Ouch.
"I'm the only one they traded, so they are putting the onus and the blame on me. I was supposedly the one with all the injuries. But I held the fort down. I played hurt, played in games I shouldn't have played in. But I held my own and this is how I'm repaid?"Camby may be misinterpreting the impetus for a trade, but we understand his frustration, particularly with the fact I still consider him the most valuable player on last year's Nuggets, if not one of most underrated players in the league.
