There are times when I consider Marcus Camby one of the most underappreciated players in the Association. Usually it's his ability to rack up 20 rebounds without a problem, last night it was his triple double recording 10 blocks.
He's close to averaging a double-double for his career (10.8 / 9.5) and currently ranks 2nd in the league in rebounds, 1st overall in blocks. It's hard to put a value on hustle points.
Consider this my Camby-man appreciation post for the year.
i think camby is underappreciated for a couple reasons. for one, he's never been part of a really successful team (knicks, toronto, and now denver) and moreover, he is injured a ton. he has averaged only 56 games per year over his 11 years prior to this one. that means he only plays in 68% of his team's games. between his teams not standing out, and camby sitting out, he isn't going to get the notoriety he might otherwise. he does have many statistically fantastic nights.
I never thought the Knicks should have let Camby go - he was great during the really good years of Jeff Van Gundy. They lost everyone from those teams, or traded them away, and slowly built the mess they are now.
