So John Calipari, how about those unimportant free throws?
Memphis led 60-51 late in the second half, but their poor free throwing shooting finally came back to haunt them as was predicted by 100% a few weeks back. The Tigers missed four of five free throws in the final 1:12, Chris Douglas-Roberts missing two in a row, setting up this Mario Chalmers clutch three-pointer to tie the game at the end of regulation.
I don't suspect coach Calipari will be going on a media tour this week informing all us "idiots who don't know anything about basketball" that free throw shooting isn't important. Yes, John, it can in fact ruin what was a superb second half of basketball by Derrick Rose and limit even the most talented and athletic teams from fulfilling their dreams.
Kansas controlled overtime, outscoring Memphis 12-5 to win the National Championship 75-68.
"Rock Chalk Championship" was the call from Jim Nantz.
Tremendous comeback by the Jayhawks, regardless of the choke job, in one of the more entertaining title games in recent memory. Not even the worst Big Ten officiating crew could screw it up.
Much, much more in the morning ... or later tonight as video availability dictates.
