Who’s one step closer to hoisting Lord Stanley? The Wrap-Around is your daily update for last nights’ NHL Playoff action.
Flyers Dominate Capitals En Route To Shutout.
41 shots to 24 shots. When you see that, very rarely does the team with 24 shots win the game. And they didn’t this time either. Even with 41 shots, Philadelphia only had two goals, both in the 1st period. The first was scored by R.J. Umberger while the second was by Jeff Carter. Cristobal Huet played solid in a losing effort, but his offense didn’t help him much, and Martin Biron had a pretty good game in the net. The series is now tied 1-1, and game 3 is in Philadelphia.
Bruins Stay In Series With Overtime Win.
The 8 seed Bruins couldn’t afford to fall behind 3-0 in the series, and they made sure they won. The game was close the entire time, and statistically it was very even as well. Milan Lucic scored in the first to give Boston a 1-0 lead in the first. Montreal would tie it in the 2nd off a Tom Kostopoulos goal and no more would be scored until overtime. Then, halfway through overtime; Mark Savard came up with the game winning goal for the Bruins. Montreal still leads the series 2-1, with game 4 in Boston.
Devils Pick Up First Win Of Series In 4-3 OT Thriller.
Perhaps it’s “Road Ice Advantage” in this series. The Rangers won games 1 and 2 in New Jersey, and the Devils won game 3 at MSG. Another pretty even game statistically. Sergei Brylin started the game for the Devils, while Brandon Dubinsky started it for the Rangers. It was tied 1-1 after the first. In the 2nd, the Devils controlled shots 12-5. (Ironically it was 12-5 in favor of the Rangers in the 3rd). Sean Avery gave the Rangers the lead on a powerplay, but the Devils scored two powerplay goals in the 2nd to give them the lead. (Elias, Parise) Dubinsky scored his second goal early in the 3rd, and no more would be scored until overtime. 6 minutes through OT, John Madden (Boom!) would score the game winner for the Devils. The Rangers hold a 2-1 series lead and will play game 4 at home.
Flames Come From Down 3-0 To Take Series Lead.
4 minutes through the 1st period, the game looked over. The Sharks had scored 3 goals, one by Ryan Clowe, one by Patrick Marleau and one by Douglas Murray. Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff was pulled in favor of veteran goalie Curtis Joseph. And on the next 22 shots, Joseph would post a shutout. Jarome Iginla scored late first on a powerplay to make it 3-1. Daymond Langkow scored on a powerplay in the 2nd. Then, Dion Phaneuf scored early in the 3rd to tie it, and Owen Nolan scored the game winner with about 4 minutes to go. With that, the Flames now lead the series 2-1, and they play game 4 at home in Calgary.
