Another win in the Championship means Red Bull is in good position to defend its title. On Sunday the Australian driver Mark Webber came out victorious from the Monaco Grand Prix. The victory allowed Red Bull to celebrate their third success win in the race.
The 35-year-old Formula One driver, Mark Webber won his second Monaco Grand Prix in three editions in grand style. Mark Webber was followed by the German Nico Rosberg, who was in his Mercedes. Spaniard, Fernando Alonso acquired the third spot in his Ferrari.
Mark Webber started the race from pole following the relegation of Michael Schumacher. The German legend was relegated to the sixth spot.
Presently, Fernando Alonso is still on top of the points table. Fernando Alonso leads the overall standings on 76 points. This means the Spaniard is now just three points in front of the Red Bull duo; Mark Webber and the defending world champion Sebastian Vettel.
Mark Webber was dominant throughout the race. The former Williams driver, who celebrated his eight Grand Prix on the podium, outsmarted most of the drivers on the track. In the end, it was Mark Webber’s consistency that won him the race.
Nico Rosberg was breathing down Mark Webber’s neck most of the time. At the checkered flag, Nico Rosbery was just sixth-tenths of a second behind Mark Webber. Fernando Alonso also finished close by.
Last year, Sebastian Vettel stood as the winner on the podium. However, Mark Webber clearly deserved the shower of champagne after the 78-lap race. His teammate, Sebastian Vettel provided good support to finish at the fourth spot.
The McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton came in fifth and Felipe Massa of Ferrari was sixth. Force team India’s duo Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg came in seventh and eighth. Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus was able to win the ninth spot and Williams’ Bruno Senna came 10th.
Mark Webber, who has now won six times from six races, explained that taking charge of the race was the key to his victory.
“An incredible day; this place gives you such amazing memories,” Mark Webber said. “There were different parts of the race where I had to be incredibly focused and make sure we really capitalized on the positioning we had. A good friend of mine sent me a text message this morning and said ‘You’re in charge, you’re in front and in charge’ and we were, but you can get bitten here very quickly.
“There were a few key stages around the stops that were interesting,” Mark Webber continued. “Sebastian had his tires very hot and was quick at that point and I couldn’t get mine going, but once he pitted I reverted my attention back to Nico and just looked after the rears until the end of the race. Then the rain came, which around here is very, very tough. But we had composure and experience and great team work on the pit wall. It’s a tough nut to crack this race, but we did it again. I had both hands on it today and I wasn’t going to let go.”
