This picture right here is of an actual Major League Baseball game. Not batting practice, not two local high schools ... but the Marlins vs Nationals. 'Sparse crowd' might be an understatement.
There were about 400 fans on hand when the game started Wednesday afternoon and the announced attendance was 10,121. The Marlins have the smallest total attendance in the majors. "It was a good game, but long, hot and drawn out," Jacobs said. "Finally, we got a couple hits and put it together. I'm sure there was plenty of people at home that saw it on TV."

Sure they were, Mike. Keep telling yourself that. Curious why a baseball team still exists in South Florida, you?

Now what exactly is the point of the fans that are still sitting 70 rows back...SCOOT UP!

I think local high school games sell more tickets than they do. The good things about being a fan at this game: no line to get a beer, no line at the bathroom, good parking spot and good chance to get a foul ball or two

I think I would have just had a beer vendor sit down next to me. Save him time and energy.

Security was tight.  They were checking every ticket they could.  So that would basically be... all of them.

Are you sure they even bothered with security in that game? Just give the job to the umps and give em a day off as well.

Wouldn't they want their 400+ fans to come back? Put them all up front, let the run around to catch a homerun and their all happy!

They've gotta make sure they are making the most of their 400 fans. If everyone bought nose-bleed tickets, and moved down... 400 fans bring in what, 4000 dollars?

To all the funny guys here. They actually do have event staff there and they WON'T let you move to the lower level without a ticket, period. Been there many times and seen it to many times.

The Marlins are ruined down here for two reasons - Fire sale #1 and fire sale #2. Not to be racial but the main reason they keep Miguel is to draw the latin fans and they are not showing up anymore either. If you live in the south and even more to the point south Florida you know it becomes ridiculous in the noon to 4pm time frame. If they had mostly night games it would be a little better for attendance but day games are poooooooo here.

Most dolphins fans run from the stands if the phins are getting crushed at halftime. It is just to dang hot and nasty down here most of the time and when it isn't it's raining. Plus I hate where the stadium is (which is why I don't go).

Was this a regularly scheduled game or a make-up game? That picture is unbelievable.

True, but if you buy the tickets for the same price, just a few rows back, who can't they let them move down?

They have staff there that will let you move down in the upper deck but not to the lower level and forget about the clubhouse level.

Their levels are 400's(upper deck), 200's(clubhouse level), 100's(lower level).

I have heard it said many times, and a lot by Braves announcers, that one of the main reasons for low attendance is location of the stadium.  I hear it's not worth the hassle to sit in, like you said, the heat and to watch a team that isn't winning (but I would love to watch that team play on a regular basis.  They have great young players).

Does that sound right in your perspective?  Location kills the will to go to see them play, unless they are in the playoffs?

Well I can say as a fan they are fun to watch. But when you watch them build a team by free agency and trade and then tear them apart it takes your heart out of it as a fan. Then to sit in the Florida heat and watch a team with no drive anymore, sucks.
