For the past 2 decades, there have been three things in life that have been certain. Death, taxes, and Martin Brodeur between the pipes for the New Jersey Devils.Things may be changing, however, as the 9-time All Star and 4-time Vezina Trophy winner is looking for the best deal he can get as he winds down his career. For the first time in a long time, he hired an agent, who has stated that Brodeur will be testing the free agency market if he and the Devils don't reach a deal by Sunday.
It would be a bit strange to see Brodeur in another jersey, but you can't blame him for wanting to get the best deal possible.
While many fans value loyalty quite highly, some people fail to see that for the players, it's a business. It's not a dream, it's a job. It's not a team, it's a company. No matter what anyone says, it really IS about the money for a vast majority of them, and rightfully so.
For all we know, this could simply be a ploy by Brodeur to squeeze a couple dollars out of the Devils. Even if that's the case, he deserves it.

The only knock on Brodeur for his career that you will hear from Canadiens fans is, he played for about 10 years with the best defense in the NHL and seldom faced more than 20 shots per game. Canadiens' fans hate that people consider Brodeur to be better than Patrick Roy.
