Matt Millen Fired By Detroit Lions
Time To Go Nuts, Lions Fans.
READ MORE:

Huge news out of Detroit today. Matt Millen is gone. Time to celebrate, Detroit. And don't worry, this story isn't being reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen, but instead by Jay Glazer, so you know it's true. Here are the details.

Millen was informed of the move last night during a late-night high-level meeting. This morning several people within the building confirmed that he had large packing boxes in his office and he made his way around to different employees telling them of the move.

It is unclear if Millen was fired or removed himself from the equation but the news comes just days after Bill Ford, Jr. publicly stated he would have fired the GM if it was his decision but he lacked the authority to do so.

It sounds as though Bill Ford Sr. finally decided to listen to the fans and, most notably, his son. Either that, or someone fired him too.

Anyway, the Lions will still suck this year, but at least with Millen gone, they won't suck forever.

By the way, if want to look back at the Millen Era, here's what he did for Detroit.

  • A 31-84 record during his tenure
  • Drafted 73 receivers in the first round of the NFL Draft

Quite a legacy he had.

I'm just surprised it took this long for him to get canned. If he had any other job in America, he would have been fired years ago. And I can't be the only one who thinks Millen should get the pillory treatment before he leaves town.

But anyway, this is your day Detroit. Go nuts.

say it ain't so... the NFC North has been stirred up this morning.... an now I'd like to see the Bears or Vikings step it up and do the right thing and take in Millen under their wing...

To Lions fan would this day be like if their birthday and Christmas were rolled into one?

Will this even make a difference.......1 playoff win in 50+ years says NO. As a Detroit fan I see no reason to celebrate.

Personally, I'd hire Millen instantly as a consultant and use his ideas a checklist of what not to do, who not to draft. It's gold.

At least you now have the potential for A playoff win at some point.

The nice thing is that despite all the many wrong things Millen did with his power, he did leave potentially the best wide out tandem in the league, so there is something to build off of.  Unfortunately for whomever takes over, thats all there is to build on.

Nice first step, now a revamped offensive line so the running game will produce and a quarterback to get the ball to the wr's,(maybe one who tries to tackle guys have picks rather than walk towards the sideline) and some help on defense and the Lions may actually win some games this next decade.

Well, Mr. Millen, if for nothing else, I'd like to thank you for eclipsing the Bengals' record for drafting futility.  May your accomplishment never be eclipsed!

Mr. Ford must now take the next step and SELL THE TEAM! Forty-Four years of mediocre football cannot be fixed without complete overhaul, and that includes ownership by football minded people who undertand what it takes to build a franchise. Lions fans deserve a competitive team to root for, not a team we know will lose before they start playing the season.

Ford needs to spend the big bucks and get a known NFL GM with experience and let them go to work, it would be nice if he sold the team to someone that cares about putting a quality product on the field, but he will die before he sells the team.

I'm just glad it happened.

I expect him to Al davis' consultant next. With such franchise destroying ability that Millen has, Davis would be crazy not to hire Millen. Just think how much faster the raiders will plummet with both Millen and Davis working together

I'm pretty sure Dave Littlefield is available as a replacement.

This should not come as a surprise . Given Detroit had a bad record to start with. The drift choice were bad . And that's not going to get better . Matt did the best he could with nothing

Jesus Christ man, what are you wanting a team?  Actually they were planning on picking up to 72 cornerbacks, some tulips, and maybe a hot cheerleader.

I think 72 corners would be good, although I am not sure their are 20 actual good one's in the NFL.  Tulips wouldn't last 5 minutes at a typical Lions loss.  As for the cheerleaders even they are wearing bags over their heads.

what? So NE is a class of winning? NE fans didnt exist until 2001. Very few still remember the 1-15 and 2-14 years. Class of winning- gimme a break
