Two weeks after former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was removed of his duties, the second most incompetent man in the city has been fired. That's right, Matt Millen has been fired. Technically, it's unclear whether he was fired or stepped down, but a man that has been so terribly bad as his job deserves to be labeled "fired."
Despite the Red Wings Stanley Cup victory, morale has been low around Detroit. With a mayor that's embarrassed the city on a national level, a fledgling auto industry and rising unemployment, don't overlook what a little hope with the Lions can provide.
Millen has been in charge of an organization that's gone 31-84 under his guidance, thanks in large part to many bombs in the NFL draft and a failure to address the team's biggests needs year after year.
I don't doubt that Millen is a good guy, and will do well if he return to broadcasting, but he embarrassed himself by not stepping down years ago when he knew he wasn't capable of turning the Lions around.
Chances are unlikely Millen finds a spot on ESPN's NFL Draft Coverage, but I recall him being one of the best analysts for FOX. Personally, I would hire Millen as a consultant and use his ideas to cross potential draft picks and free agents off the list. It's perfect.
Congratulations, Lions fans. You deserve this.
