Matt Millen Warning Given During Super Bowl Coverage
Detroit Is Still Pretty Pissed At Matt Millen
READ MORE:
This last season for the Detroit Lions was pretty rough, to say the least. And while comically inept GM Matt Millen technically got fired early on in the season, many fans - wait, make that all fans - know that Millen was the true architect of the 0-16 season.

But what's funny is that Millen was used by NBC at points during the playoffs, and the Super Bowl, to give his "analysis" on the games. Matt Millen talking about the playoffs and the Super Bowl? That's like me giving you advice about international diplomacy.

And luckily, someone decided to point out this out.

Channel 4 in Detroit put up a message on local TV every time that Matt Millen came up on TV during Super Bowl coverage. And here's what it said:

"Matt Millen was president of the Lions for the worst eight-year run in the history of the NFL. Knowing his history with the team, is there a credibility issue as he now serves as an analyst for NBC Sports? ..."

Yes, yes there is a credibility issue. In fact, I think I heard Millen say the other day that the only way the Cardinals could win the Super Bowl was if they signed Charles Rogers.

BONUS UPDATE: Now with video.

Warning! Matt Millen's on. [Detroit Free Press]

The only thing worse than trolling around that dumpster of a city is being stuck in the state of Alabama longer than 2 days.

You are really classless. I have been to Detroit many times, and never had one problem.Detroit, like many iner-cities, need help, however, your statement is not funny, and your remarks are poor and unwarranted to the people of Detroit, who grind out a living each and every day. You should be embarrassed .

This just raises another question...why did it take the Lions 8 years to get it right and fire the guy?  It's one thing to have one or bad seasons while building something, but if there's no progress (or a total ineptitude) someone's got to pay.  Maybe at some point even the league needs to step in and just wrest control away from the owners until they do things right.  With Millen's fingerprints on everything in the organization, it's still going to be a few years before they right the ship and at least be respectable.

Matt Millen may have been a good player in his playing days, but he is a poor evaluator of talent. It made me physically ill to hear him give analysis on players and strategies.  He would have been better served analyzing the flavor of the Gatorade each team drank, but knowing him he would have probably screwed that up too.

"The Gatorade drink of choice I recommend is Dr. Pepper."

Well, if you are a fan of any other NFL team you can only thank Detroit for waiting so long to fire Millen. Think of all thew wins gained at the Lions' expense.

When NBC put a graphic below his name he was toutred as a multi-time Super Bowl winner.  No mention of his recent 'work'.    Makes the whole NBC operation suspect.
I tried to edit my 'typo (toutred should be touted)

Oh my God, settle down before you get your panties in a wad.  What a whiner you are.  I bet you've even sued a fast food restaurant because the coffee was too hot.
I hope you get a foot fungus.
Detroit still blows.

There is nothing wrong with the city of Detroit other than the UAW runs it.  I would take the RedWings/Pistons/Lions/Tigers combo anyday

Was anybody else like WTF is this guy doing at the SuperBowl?  What also makes me sick is the fact that Charlie Batch has 2 rings now.

Let me tell you why my life as a Detroit Lions fan sucks. Most of you know how bad it hurts when you love someone who doesn't love you. Now imagine that every year you and said person reconcile after a nasty breakup and your on top of the world. Your getting butterflies in your stomach just thinking of a ll the fun you and said person will have. Then slowly they stop returning your phone call... you find love notes from other people in their possession... your heartbroken, but its not close to over yet. You offer to take them back with no questions asked just because you love them sooo much. Then you see said person out on the town with some other person making out in front of everyone. They see you and laugh. They continue to get hot and heavy in front of your face while laughing at you. This is how i feel seeing Millens Shit eating grin on NBC talking about football. This piece of crap didn't have the courage to stand up for even one of his bad decisions and say "i was wrong". Even the one comment he made taking some blame for what happened in Detroit was followed by a "but there was a lot of other things wrong in that organization". He is so cocky he cant even fathom that any thing was totally his fault. He oversaw every decision in Detroit and has lead my Lions down a path that will take years to recover from... and then sit in front of America with the audacity to talk about "how to build a football team" What a joke. NBC is a joke for hiring him. If it wasnt for "the office" id erase NBC from my television. At least i still have my Fire Millen signs... BASTARD!

As a person who has done a little work in the scouting area, scouts are to the NFL front office what enlisted personnel are to the military, though they do much of the work they receive very often little credit or blame, some teams have regional or sectional scouting directors who are rather like junior officers, your heads of college scouting and pro personnel directors are rather like Lt. Colonels or Navy Captains and the GM is the 2  star General or Admiral with Executive VP of Football Operations as the 4 Star and Team President as the, well as the President.

Scouts gather intelligence via coaching connections, 1st hand viewing, game tape and work outs, the higher ups may see some tape prior to post season All Star games, but some prefer to only seriously break down players of interest after the Senior Bowl.  Prior to the combine each team reworks it's 'Big Board' based on post season information,. All Star games, off season surgeries, weight gained or lost, off the field trouble etc., the process is repeated after the combine and pro days.  Since the league is so cross-pollinated most scouts have connections with other teams and there is far more sharing of notes/cross-checking of analyses than you might Imagine, but always being cautious, always better to get someone's take on a dozen prospects not 1 or 2 unless you aren't trying to hide your intentions, which you usually are.  Some teams do even put out intentional misinformation regarding their level of interest in a prospect, but that's mostly a thing of the past, back in the AFL days that stuff was rife, now most teams just play it very close to the vest
