Schaub hurting the Texans
It is this way with the Houston Texans. The Texans have won the AFC South Division two years in a row and have done so with a prolific offense.
Unfortunately, it appears that the Texans' offense has hit a slide. To make matters worse, it is because of their starting QB Matt Schaub.
While Schaub has completed over 63 percent of passes and has thrown for well over 1,000 yards (1,366), he has thrown eight interceptions in his team's first five games. What is even more alarming is that he has thrown more interceptions than touchdown passes (8).
In the team's three losses, Schaub has been particular shaky. He has thrown for just two touchdowns, has been sacked eight times and has thrown six interceptions.
Obviously, every NFL quarterback goes through periods like this but for Schaub, it seems to be a consistent thing. He will have games where he looks like the best QB in the league while in other games, he looks lost out on the field.
This was the case last night in his team's 34-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Schaub completed 19 of his 35 attempts for just 173 yards, got sacked six times and threw three interceptions.
In this same game, Schaub also set a dubious record. Yesterday marked the fourth straight game in which Schaub has thrown a pick-six.
If you are a Texans' fan, than you know that Schaub's poor performance last night is coming off yet another poor performance in his team's 23-20 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at home last Sunday. In that game, he threw two interceptions and was one of the reasons why his team ended up blowing a 20-3 lead.
Because of his poor play of late, Texans' fans have been all over the 32-year-old QB. After his inconsistent play in the game against the Seahawks, angry Texans' fans were burning his jersey and making fun of him by naming a hamburger after him.
If Schaub does not correct his mistakes in the near future, the Texans might find themselves out of the postseason picture very quickly.
