Here's a rather interesting story that's just leaked out. Baltimore Ravens kicker Matt Stover e-mailed a plan to fellow player representatives on Monday asking them to oust Gene Upshaw as the NFL Players Association Executive Director and insert a new union boss by March 2009.
Only problem is it got intercepted.
In his e-mail, a copy of which was obtained by ESPN, Stover revealed a conference call among player reps on Friday in which he said, "I was on that conference call and I am not the only rep who listened and felt that it is time for a change."
As for Stover's e-mail, Upshaw said Tuesday: "Matt Stover has no clue. Whoever is pulling his chain is doing a disservice to the union. I could understand the idea that they need to get rid of me if I wasn't doing a good job but, shoot, the owners are mad because they think I've done too good of a job."
You know why the owners think you've done a good job, Gene? Because you don't fight for guaranteed contracts for players, even though you're a former player. Because you don't give out pension money to retired veterans who can barely stand, and you threaten to break their necks if they get angry about it. Because your complete incompetency benefits the owners over the players.
I mean, Upshaw is the head of the Players Union and yet the guy has been the pawn of the owners since he took the job.
I don't blame Stover for this email at all, in fact, I think it'd be better if players got up and made it publicly known how much they hate Upshaw. He's a total incompetent idiot who doesn't look out for the people he supposedly represents. If he were a lawyer, he would have been disbarred his first day on the job.
Normally, I finish posts off with some witty line, but not this time. Upshaw should have been fired years ago. The man is a cancer and a utter slimeball for the "work" he's done as the head of the players union. He deserves all the criticism he gets and more.
