Matt Walsh Watched The Rams Walkthrough, Reported To Patriots Coaches What He Saw

Roger Goodell Thinks Spygate Is Over. But Guess What, It Isn't.

Matt Walsh Watched The Rams Walkthrough, Reported To Patriots Coaches What He Saw Photo Today Roger Goodell met with Matt Walsh to listen to what the former Patriots assistant had to say about Spygate. At the end of the meeting, Goodell said the Patriots wouldn't face any further sanctions because "There was no Rams walkthrough tape."

Well, there was no tape, but guess what there was? Walsh admitted that he attended the Rams' final walkthrough and then reported back to Patriots coaches on what he saw. So I guess Goodell didn't exactly lie, he just decided not to give all the necessary information.

According to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, Walsh told Brian Daboll, a Patriots assistant coach, about the way the Rams planned to align their tight end against the Patriots' defense, and that the Rams lined up in a kick return formation in which Marshall Faulk took the field.

This may sound somewhat stupid, but in a game as close as this one was, pretty much any edge may have made the difference.

Of the course the other thing is that Goodell still has to meet with Sen. Arlen Specter about this whole deal, and this of course gives Specter more fodder.

Even though I realize Spygate is pretty stupid at this point, I still hope Specter sticks it to Goodell. It's obvious Goodell is just trying to minimize the damage to the NFL here. The core fact remains pretty simple here: the Patriots clearly cheated and it might have resulted in a Super Bowl loss for another team. If Goodell isn't man enough to admit that, maybe Specter can force it out him.

+1 thumbs upThe Rams were abundantly more talented than the Patriots, it shouldn't have mattered what Walsh saw in the walkthrough, and it was legal for him to be there.  He was in full Patriots attire and even talked to some of the Rams personnel.  The Rams blew that game and have no excuse.

That being said, it does sound like Goodell is trying to minimize the damage to the league, and a lot more probably went on around the Super Bowl.  Walsh was probably secretly rewarded handsomely to go away, but what more to people want besides something to whine about?  The organization was docked a first round draft pick and fined an unprecedented amount of money.  I was satisfied with the punishment, although I felt Belichick should have also been suspended for a couple games.

I just hope the screws are tightened on any former teams who's current or former personnel speaks out against the Patriots.  Every team cheats, just most are smart enough not to hire weasels who exhibit several times they'll do anything to be promoted.

Roger Goodell is a joke, and nothing will happen or ever get solved with this until an outside party investigates it.  Unfortunately, the only party that seems willing is our government, which has slightly more important things to deal with.

+1 thumbs up...and which falls all over itself in it's own right.

I just wish there was some momentum behind it.  You have a guy like Specter calling for their heads, but he's ignored because he's a bitter Eagles fan.  Then the Steelers bend over to the Patriots and say their losses were at the hand of a better team - seemingly to stick it to Specter and the Eagles.  Either everybody needs to rise up or it needs to go away.

It's amazing how much ado everyone is making about Spygate, when we all know that it will be dusted under the rug.
