The Dallas Mavericks have signed shooting guard Monta Ellis to a three-year deal that could be worth as much as $30 million. The Mavs backcourt will now feature Jose Calderon, Devin Harris, and Monta Ellis.
The Mavericks were in need of offensive help with Dirk Nowitzki’s health issues and OJ Mayo’s departure to Milwaukee. Ellis will easily provide a consistent offensive punch for the Mavs as a player that can easily create his own shot. The issue with Monta Ellis, however, has always been on the defensive end. In all likelihood, if the Mavs are going to make the playoffs this year, unlike last year, they are going to have to outscore their opponents this upcoming season.
